Not yet. Have some trees I need to contend with first!

everything is working fine so far with the new setup. vhf level is down some but that is acceptable since I was getting some overload with the combination of vhf and uhf in the setup.

on uhf ...2 stations 55 miles away in utica NY were 92 and 88 signal strength when I checked after work yesterday. signal was normally in the 70's before. two stations from rochester ny 75 miles to the west registered with a level of 10. ducting was up the last few days and I am going to wait for a normal reception day to see where I stand.

the new alliance u110 with the thrust bearing is working great. moves the system with ease. cutting the system down 16" helped with the loading.

I gave the rs u75r a shot for the ch 56 with jointenna for the rear for about a month now. the rs u75r did not work out. the rs u75r is inexpensive, works fine for some, but fit, finish, and construction is for the birds (to rest on) and not what I am used to. the 2 active uhf elements were held together loosely with rivets, where the balun attached loose not sturdy at all, and did not turn me on. for the long term, I see degradation of signal outside from the aging process from the weather and corrosion. the antenna is "junk" to my standards and you can do better, sorry. the antenna may be better suited for the attic though.

the antenna was not "powerful" enough to deal with the multipath from the trees to my rear either. the bowties were even worse back there. ch 56 is 8 miles away and transmits at 5 million watts.

I moved the 91 xg around and the reception was much improved on ch 56. I ordered a 43 xg and will receive it monday. I will install the antenna later next week and will see what happens.

bowties with trees...not a good combination. tried 2,4,8 bowtie varieties out back. signal pulsing ghosting were all over the place and drove me nuts.

Default Watertown...

Are you able to get signals from Watertown? H2Otown has 7-1 & 7-2 (digital channel 35), 16-1 (digital channel 41) and 50-1 & 50-2 (digital channel 21). When I'm out at the cottage (Chaumont), I get Syracuse and Rochester digital channels in beautifully. I can't wait until the ice melts off in the lake so I can hook the water back up and move back into the cottage. I've got forced warm air heater there but the only problem is relying on the lake for water. I'm planning to have shore-well installed this summer so maybe I can then live there year round. Where I live now, it's the Tug Hill that's preventing me from receiving any of the Syracuse digital channels.

geography at my home favors utica to the east. I have difficulty with fox ch 27.

I am unable to receive digital and analog from watertown about 50 miles and rochester about 75 miles. The trees behind my home do not help matters trying to receive watertown. I receive fox rochester occasionally during topoducting season.

once I install the 43xg out back I am done screwing around.

The ap 8800 is gain heavy on the vhf side and not what you really need.
Gain: VHF 29dB, UHF 19dB
Noise: VHF 2.7dB, UHF 2.8dB

The AP8275, Ap8780, ap8700 would be the better preamp choices for uhf.

The ap8725 has a tendancy to overload your system because the gain on vhf is rather high and overload tolerance is low. This amp is intended for the boonies with absolutely no towers around.

The ap8700 is a lower gain amp with higher overload tolerance for use in the 35 mile or so range.

The ap8780 has lower vhf gain and would be a better choice over the ap8800.

AP8275 UHF/VHF UHF: 28db gain, 2.8 db noise; VHF 29 db gain, 2.9 db noise

AP8700 UHF/VHF UHF: 19db gain, 2.8 db noise; VHF 17 db gain, 2.8 db noise

AP8780 UHF/VHF UHF: 28db gain, 2.7 db noise; VHF 17 db gain, 2.9 db noise

The cm7777 is the best preamp and I have tried them all during the years.

CM7777 UHF/VHF UHF: 26db gain, 2.0 db noise; VHF 23 db gain, 2.8 db noise

If you are experienced pulsating signal up and down, adding a preamp alone may not improve the situation. The amp could just raise the signal level high enough so the level is higher than the threshold of the receiver. the pulsing with still be there just at a higher level.

A different style antenna combined with the cm7777 preamp may help. If the issue stems from multipath, bowties tame multipath poorly and you may be better off with a 91xg style antenna.

The 43xg is up and running. the picture on ch 56 is improved.

Going to experiment tomorrow after work with amplification among the 3 antennas with my stash of hdp269's.

Hey Rick,

The 43 xg does not tilt? The mount looks completely different from the 91 XG.

It's cute...exactly like the 91XG only smaller. Just call it "STUBBY".
