What type of antenna setup are you using? Pre-amp? Antenna height? All the usual suspect in your setup?

Thanks.
Nothing special. An Archer (Radio Shack) 4-bay UHF antenna and an Archer preamp and RG-59 coax. It's old and needs replacing, but its in better shape than a much newer all band antenna I use for local broadcasts. Of course the Archer brand was discontinued about 10 years ago and I haven't seen a similar design among current offerings.

BTW, Mount Mansfield UHF stations have always been very easy to pick up in our neighbourhood.

Must be! I Google Earthed your locale to Mt. Mansfield...flat as a friggin' pancake! You lucky SOB. I haven't put up my 91XG/CM7777 combo yet, but I'm gonna give it a shot here in a week or two & see what I can get from my locale.

If God loves me...

He'll give me at least one of the networks in HD!!!

It's due to the antenna pattern toward Canada, not the lower power, nor VHF.

I am aware of that for my situation. I added the comment about ERP to indicate that I had no answer for Deerhunter's query on ERP.

Brian, you didn't mention what you are using for a VHF antenna specifically to pick up WVNY-DT.. A broadband antenna may be a disadvantage for you because CFCF-TV is so strong where you are. Have you tried a dedicated channel 13 yagi?

I am not using a VHF antenna for any of the Plattsburgh-Burlington stations at the moment. I need to go up on the roof later in the spring to do some repairs on the VHF-only antenna that I have pointed at Lake Champlain. The preamp has become disconnected. It looks like some pesky squirrel or bird has chewed right through the cable. Even then I might only be able to pick up channels 3 and 5 (which I no longer need to pick up). Given channel 13's weak signal I have my doubts as to whether the antenna can pick it up. Channel 12's strong signal only complicates matters, even with that antenna pointed in the direction it's pointing.

Since I no longer need to pick up channels 3 and 5, I was thinking of replacing the VHF antenna with a channel 13 yagi but I am waiting until someone else in my area has some success in actually receiving WVNY-DT. While there are people on the South Shore receiving 13, they appear to be at the extreme limit of 13's coverage. I don't know of anyone on Montreal Island receiving it. In the meantime I can still watch WVNY-22 for a while (around here a coat hanger is all that's needed for 22), so I can afford to procrastinate.

I remember a time about 25 years ago when I ws in downtown Montreal at an electronic store. I believe it was in the mall underneath the Queen Elizabeth hotel, playing with a Sony Watchman, and finding that the only channel I could get clearly was WVNY from Burlington, which was over 80 miles away...still amazes me...

Hey Rick,

What's the verdict? How'd things work out?

tomorrow I am going to upgrade my system. put the 91 xg on top and the hd8200p on the bottom replace the rotor and coax. all excited.

after all that time, trouble and anticipation...the reception can get worse .

wish it was more cut and dry...dont ya?

ya gotta love it...hdtv.
