Back to my plight. After about half an hour of playing csr roulette, I was finally able to get a hold of a supervisor at D* named Tom. He confirmed that I would be able to get the above mentioned DNS distants!!!

He wasn't able to access the DNS eligibilty page to enter my home address & info. He said for him to do so I had to have an ACTIVE account which I haven't had in over 5 years. Anyways, I proceeded to tell him about the DNS eligibilty page saying that I did in fact qualify for 3 of the 4 distants, and he said then he was positive that I COULD get them, and would only need to submit a waiver request for the 4th station which I've already contacted, and they said they would be glad to give me a waiver!!!

So, thats where I'm at this point in the game. Now to decide whether or not to dump E*. Wuddaya think???

Round 3 ding-ding...

Well, Just got off the phone with yet another supervisor at D*. He said that even If the DNS eligibilty page states that you qualify for distants, by law, D* must still request waivers for each of the individual networks.

So that means I'm right back at square one. Only one network affiliate WCAX-CBS Burlington is granting waivers.

I'm soooooooo sick & tired of this crap! I just want networks in HD. I don't care if they were from Cucumonga!!!!

I might make the switch to D* just to get the 1 waiver for CBS. At this point I'll take anything get. Had I done it earlier I would have at least been able to watch the Superbowl in HD!!!

Suggestion

keep playing the game with directv, talk calmly with the right people, and be patient. Get the waivers in your hand for all the networks and signup.

if you are successful, do not cancel the networks moving forward because it will be very difficult to get them back.

try this...call customer retention. tell them you want to switch from dish. you will give them the 2 year committment for total choice premium or whatever but you want the networks in hd and tell them to get the approvals.

call now before you get the 2nd shift!

But that just it. They can't confirm that I'll get DNS or request waivers without an active account. I hate to sing up, only to discover that I can't get the waivers. I do know as stated before, the only waiver I know for sure I can get is for CBS.

call customer retention...ask for a supervisor.

give them the committment under stipulation.

Done deal. Here's what I got. 2 year commit, 1 HD DVR, 1 HD rcvr, 1 standard rcvr, HD PLUS pakage....which is 180 plus HD's, free locals, a commitment that I would get the DNS in HD, equipment protection plan, free install, & $10 a month discount for the first year. My monthly will be 75.96 for the first year, then 85.96 thereafter.

AND an employee ID # with the guarantee that if I could not get DNS HD's, that a full refund will be granted!!!

I hope I'm not making a huge mistake!!!

The huge mistake would have been installing the antenna

Nice deal.

When are they installing?

A one antenna solution will probably compromise your UHF reception to some degree, but if you insist on one antenna, The Wade-Delhi VU-937 SR with the optional VU8PZ powerzoom UHF attachment is the most powerful all-channel antenna you can buy. Try it with a Channel Master Titan 7777 preamp and a rotator, and you'll be ready for just about anything out there. Rick will tell you to use the Winegard HD-8200, but it's UHF performance is not as good as the VU-937SR. If you are going to use a rotator, check with Norm's Rotor Service in Alabama about an Alliance U-110 rotator or a Hy-Gain AR-40, because I believe that the Channel Master 9521a rotator is too lightweight to work with an antenna as large as a VU-937SR or a HD8200.

OK, once again, for clarity: the deep-fringe perscription is as follows,

1 Channel Master 4228 UHF antenna
1 Wade-Delhi VIP-306 VHF antenna
1 Channel Master Titan 7777 preamp
1 Channel Master 9521a rotator
30'+ antenna height from the ground

install carefully, avoid bodily injury

scan your digital tuner.

sit back and enjoy all-channel analog and digital reception

Do NOT substitute!

This is a great recommendation however I would go for 50 feet minimum if you are in an area like mine where the closest major network stations are 60 miles away and almost all UHF. I have a different installation than what he recommends, but get excellent results. I have a RS VU190XR antenna on top of a 50' tower and a rotor. I also have a pre-amp, but to be honest I don't remember what kind it is and am not going to climb the tower to get the model numbers off the thing(don't know why, but the lower part of it has no ID on it). With this setup I regularly get stations clearly from 150 miles away and always get the stations with in a 100 mile radius. I have 59 good channels off air (analog and digital combined) from 7 different cities. I have actually been able to clearly receive waka 8 from Montgomery AL 180 miles southeast from me, even though I have the Nashville public television station channel 8 only 80 miles north of me.

P.S. I have tried the 8 bay antennas here before with poor success because there are sooo many channel repeats around here that are in nearly the same direction and distance some with only 30 degree separation. I have 2 ch 17's 2 ch 27's 2 ch 33's etc .... so if you have repeats in your area the yagi style will help cancel that out but you will loose some signal gathering ability.
