Question Hdb8x mod for vhf

I would like to pick up a vhf channel. I have 2 uhf antennas. How could I mod the HDB8X to pick up some vhf stations?
Thanks Deafelf

Default HDB8X VHF Mod?

deafelf,

When I tested my HDB8X it didn't show any High VHF response. From what I’ve read, it has to do with not having a continuous reflector. If you have some 1” X 3” metal hardware cloth lying around, you could try it behind the panels. I did a side-by-side comparison with a Channel Master CM-4228 (the old one, not the new “HD” model) and the HDB8X was very slightly better than the CM-4228 for UHF but didn’t show any High VHF response. The CM-4228 on the other hand received 7.1, 8.1, 9.1, 10.1, 11.1 & 13.1 at my location. I do not have channel 12 available. I think you would be better served with a High VHF Yagi & a UVSJ. I use a Winegard YA-1713 and/or an AntennaCraft Y10 7-13. If you try the hardware cloth, let us know how it works behind the HDB8X.

Buy a VHF antenna and put it below the HDB8X

Use a joiner or combiner to couple them together.

How do I make a gasoline powered vehicle run on Diesel fuel?
It's the same question....
It wasn't designed to run on Diesel fuel, and messing around with it to make it run on diesel fuel will probably degrade its performance / not enhance it.

Deafelf,

As always, Pete was spot on with his advice. Your options are to try a full reflector (36 inches wide) for VHF reception or add a VHF antenna plus uvsj to join the two antennas. The full reflector should be flat and may not work if you have your HDB8X aimed in two directions...

Best,

Rick
