TV Fool Report:
tvfool url + /?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d507cc9f0e3c4d 3 Current antenna about 10 yrs. old (unknown model, sorry) and CM7777 do some fairly good work and bring in the following: 2.1, 2.2, 4.1, 5.1, 5.2, 9.1, 11.1, 11.2, 23.1, 29.1, 41.1, 41.2, 41.3, and 45.1 (all are uhf but 11 and 9) However, kmsp 9.1 (high vhf), kstp 5.1 (uhf), cw 23.1 (uhf), and myn 29.1 (uhf) periodically drop out. The antenna is roof-mounted and there's about a 35ft run of coax to the tv in the basement. Would it be reasonable to expect better results with a different/newer antenna/antenna combo, possibly a clearstream4 for uhf and a winegard ya-1713 for vhf (channels 11 and 9)? Or any other suggestions? The dropouts are fairly annoying and happen even during clear conditions. I know it might be difficult to give sound advice seeing as I'm unaware of the current antenna's model/specs, but I'd greatly appreciate any sort of input. Thanks much in advance! Welcome to the forums!
Here is a link to your tvfool report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...507cc9f0e3c4d3 Could you take a picture of your antenna and post it in a reply? We have many experienced individuals and they likely can identify the antenna. Have you inspected your cable wiring and connections? Replacing the outdoor wiring and connections may help tremendously. IMO, you are a good candidate for the Tiger Bangs Fringe Solution. See sticky at top of this forum. ***I should add that the fringe prescription has changed since some of the original antennas are no longer available. The prescription specifies an XG-91 for UHF, a 1713 for high VHF, and a CM 7777. You could also a rotor in your situation. HTH, Rick Last edited by IDRick; 10-23-2009 at 06:16 PM. |

Hey, thanks for the welcome and advice. That sounds like a good prescription.
I'll do my best to post a pic of the antenna tomorrow. I'll also check the quality of the coax. |

Also, not sure if this concern is warranted, but the 91xg seems quite directional and the location of the 41.1 signal is about 20 degrees different than the other signals. Would this be a problem at the kind of distance I'm dealing with?

You need a very directional, high gain antenna to have a decent shot at acquiring stations over 70 miles away. Channel 41.1 (86 degrees) may still be receivable if you aim for the Shoreview towers (105 degrees). If not, a rotor would allow you to adjust aim to acquire the ION station and others that may be of interest.
