Ipod touch headphone jack or speaker??

Whenever i listen to my Ipod touch..
Without headphones-
the speaker works fine.
With headphone-
The speaker plays with them, and only the right headphone works?
Is it just broken or what?

1. Ensure that you are pushing the earphone plug *all the way in*, I know it sounds daft but this does happen occasionally. Push firmly, you won't break anything.

2. Check Settings > General > Sounds and check that the appropriate settings are enabled. (not sure if these differ from 1st gen but have to ask).

3. Try a reset, press and hold both buttons, ignore the "Slide to turn off" instruction and let go only when the Apple logo appears, the Touch will restart.

4. If the above fail, take/send it back

This happens to me as well. I noticed it was happening with different devices and realized it was the headphone jack itself. Must of been damaged somehow. I use different headphones now and the problem is gone.

I had this happen recently, turned out there was a piece of lint jammed in there preventing your plug to be pushed in all the way.

I fixed it with a q-tip (which I took most of the actually tip off) and dipped in rubbing alcohol and twirled it in the opening.

Even though it may be out of warranty, I would give Apple a call and inquire about their pricing to fix the problem. Even though it may be a little pricy, it may be worth it. Maybe the price would be worth it to wait and pick up a "new".
