Android 4.0 on your HP touchpad!!

For all the people that were able to take advantage of the $99 HP Touchpad fire sale about 6 months back, here is some interesting info. You can easily install and run the Android 4.0.x OS on it and be able to take advantage of all the apps. And the best part is you still have the WebOS and all your installed apps and info on it. You simply can choose what OS you want to boot from and BAM!! Good to go.

I have been using it for about a week now since the latest Alpha release came out and it works great. Only thing not supported yet is the camera and mic. But if you need to use them for pics/Skype video con, just boot to WebOS and you are back in action. There are a few other bugs they are working on for the next Beta, but all in all it is pretty bug free for me. Here is the link to the instructions on how to do it..

There is actually a fix for the mic issue and you can technically use Skype for voice calls. I don't think the camera will be fixed anytime soon, as the library file is not open source. I hope someone from the cyanogenmod team does something about it.

I hear they are getting closer to a camera fix as they found the drivers for it and are working on it. But then again, if camera is a must, you can always boot into WebOS.

I was late to the party, I installed Android to my TouchPad this past fall but it has been very stable. I don't know if the camera works since I have never used it but I am sure that information is readily available if I do decide I want to use a camera. I expect it is still a no.
