Red face Help with Ideas to keep Rain off AC....window unit

Hey guys I bought a Haier 12,000 btu ac/heat window unit to go in the cave. I put it in today temporarily until I get the brace made for it. It has fins on top and the sides to let the hot air escape but I notice that the rain will be able to come straight down into the unit. I know it will drain out but I'm sure in time it will start to rust the compressor and stuff inside as well as possibly the shell of the AC itself overtime. Also might be getting onto something electrical inside the unit. I'm trying to think of ideas to keep it covered until I can get something permanent. Better yet, I want to do something permanent that will look good being it is the front of the cave. I really don't want to build a front foyer type thing on the cave right now and also wondering how a foyer just over the AC itself would look? Just trying to gather some thoughts and ideas on what to do.

You know that when the A/C is working it will fill up the bottom of the pan with condensate, so it is made to have water in it. The awning will help its efficiency more than anything.
