Default Best SACD/DVD-A player that is affordable?

Hi I was wondering what is the best affordable SACD/DVD-A player that I can buy? On a side note when will their be a price drop on the oppo BDP-83 (?spelling?)?

Thanks

I don't know of any other BD players that support SACD or DVD-A. Oppo takes a long time to lower prices on their players and you can probably bet it will stay at $499 for at least a couple months. If you really need one just get a cheaper Sony player that plays those two formats exclusively.

having a player that also supports blu-ray is a pulse but not a necessity for me at the moment. I just need a quality SACD/DVD-A player, im new to these formats and dont want to spend a ton of money but would like a quality player, a list of player and a small description/ rating would be much appreciated.

"Affordable" means different things to different people. Also, Blu-ray players that support DVD-A/SACD will be very rare. Therefore, your biggest bang for the buck will be older universal DVD players, both used and new. Such as:

http://www.amazon.com/OPPO-DV-980H-U...8523249&sr=1-1

The Oppo may be the best all-round player, with excellent audio and video.

Fine, but you're going to have to buy a video player to get both DVD-A and SACD playback.
Just buy the older Oppo and never put a video into it, OK?

The Universal DVD player is the only way to get a device that plays both DVD Audio and SACD. The Pioneer I recommended is quite good as is the Oppo mentioned. Look for price...

I enjoy both those formats. But, I wouldn't invest in equipment for either of them now. There's very little media available these days.

DVD-Audio is pretty much dead. The format requires video in order to see menus. It's not an audio-only format like CD or SACD.

SACD is a bit healthier than DVD-A, but really only for classical music and, perhaps, jazz. SACD is also dead for most other types of music.

I bought a Denon 2900, an excellent universal player, on eBay a few years ago for $250. They're probably even cheaper now. Oppo and Pioneer also made universal DVD players.
