one side shows you how to hook up audio&the other side video. you will see on back of your receiver 4 hdmi in's and one hdmi out. out to tv and hdmi out [blu-ray player] to hdmi in that says dvd[receiver].you got it right. this is a great receiver.the real treat is the audio dd true hd and dts master audio. man oh man it sound real i have had receiver's in the past from just prologic to dd5.1 but theses new audio codec are the best. i had my blu-ray player for quite a while hooked direct to my hdtv. when i went through the receiver i noticed no difference. Quick question. When you play a Blu-ray disk, what does you display say? I have and 805 and the top line says pcm DVD and the second line says HDMI Through.

With my BD35 audio output set to bitstream, my 606 says DTS-HD MASTER (or whatever the codec is). I wil lahve to check to see what it says if set to PCM.

That is my concern. I do have the BD35 set to bitstream and the second audio off. I have emailed Onkyo to ask. Thanks

hey,
I have a onkyo TX-SR606, with a samung LCDTV LE46A656. The sources are a digital tv decoder, a computer and a dvd-player. I live in Belgium so everything is subtitled.... when i put on a HD channel, connected through the onkyo with HDMI, i notice a clear difference in quality!!!! especially noticeable around the subtitles when you are at 30cm in front of the tv. At 2m it's not noticeable anymore. But never the less, there IS a loss of quality when you go through your TX-SR606 with HDMI. So i connect all my video sources directly to the tv, and seperately the audio to my onkyo.... I hope this helps, |

I wonder if more people can comment on what Stef76 said. I will be getting my Onkyo via UPS today and hooking it up tonight. What is the ideal way to connect everything? I have a KDL40v4150 Sony Bravia, Panasonic BD35, and the ONkyo SR606.
Thanks, Pycroft |

If you set the Panasonic BD35 to bitstream, the Onkyo will decode the HD audio and the light on the front panel will indicate Master HD or whatever. If you set the BD35 to PCM, the Panasonic decodes the audio and the Onkyo will display multichannel. Either way works.

The ideal way to connect is to run all components through the AVR. I have not tested the video by not going through my 606 from the BD35. I ahve a 50" Pioneer Kuro and from about 10 feet away, the picture looks great to me.

So, of course being a AV noob, i'm having problems setting up my Onkyo 606. I ran the speaker setup - fine. I have an HDMI going from TV HDMI In to the Onkyo OUT. I have another HDMI going from my BD35 OUT to the reciever DVD (IN 1). I am getting no sound from the receiver when playing blu rays. I read earlier in this post that it may have to o with the settings on the Blu Ray. Is it true that in settings, I go to Digital Audio Output and change both Dolby D/Dolby D +/Dolby True HD, AND DTS/DTS-HT from bitstream to PCM? At the bottom it also says BD-Video Secondary Audio and it's set now to "On". Do I have to change any of this? What else can be the problem? Also, another stupid question: Similar to old receivers with just surround sound, can i use the onkyo to play regular TV stations in surround sound or is it used exclusively for the BD's?
Thanks, Pycroft |

Turning that off did not change the fact that I have no sound. I have a feeling it may be another settings issue since I may have changed some things when experimenting with the BD player. Here's some other audio settings:
Dynamic Range Compression: Auto (Other choices are On or Off) PCM Down Conversion: On (Other choices are Off) Downmix: Surround encoded (Other choices are Stereo) Under a category called TV/Device Connection, under the subcategory HDMI Connection It says :HDMI Audio Output: On (Other choices are off). Other than that I don't see any other audio options in the setup If youcan't suggest something in there that could fix it, perhaps there's something on the Onkyo? FYI, I have done nothing but the Audessey setup, the HDMI labeling (Labled HDMI Out 1 as DVD), and plugged everything in as I expressed in my last post. Please, any adavice? Pycroft |
