Default Onkyo TX-SR705 Firmware Update

I purchased an Onkyo TX-SR705 from Circuit City last weekend and so far am very happy with it. I tried registering it on the Onkyo web site so I could download the firmware update but the web site said my serial number was invalid. After going back and forth with Onkyo's customer service and sending them pictures of my receiver they said the serial number is invalid and to return it. The problem is this model has been discontinued and they don't have another. This was a display model and I got a great deal on it so I'm inclined to keep it.

I still need to update the firmware and Onkyo won't send it to me. Any chance someone could send me the latest firmware? PM me if you can.
Thanks.

First, the firmware requires you to take or ship it to Onkyo or an authorized service center to have it installed.

Second, what issue are you having that the firmware would resolve?

This model the DSP's can be updated by burning the update (a .wav file) to a CD and playing it through the #1 optical input.

As for why; there is a DTS HD MA "gunshot" problem that can damage the speakers. The firmware update corrects the problem.

That site doesn't recognize my serial number as being associated with a 705. Onkyo claims the serial number I have is for a TX-SR304 even though the pictures I sent them clearly show its a 705. Thanks for your help.

Then somebody at the place you purchased it swapped the serial numbers. I would certainly be contacting them to assist in this matter.

I did talk to the manager at Circuit City and he tried to resolve the issue with Onkyo to no avail. The sticker material is so thin it looks like it would be difficult to remove and reinstall on another unit without showing evidence of tampering. I can't see how anyone would benefit from such a switch anyway. I think it's more likely a clerical error at the manufacturer.

I seriously doubt that because of strict adherence to production/serial number runs.

Can you post a close up picture of the back panel of your 705?

Picture is attached.

I experienced the "gunshot" problem last night while watching AVP-Requiem. Fortunately is seems no speakers were damaged. Going back to lossy audio until I get firmware update or another receiver.

I have not been able to find the update as of yet but will continue to look. I would forward that photo to Onkyo technical support and see what they have to say then.

Found the update for mine and several other Onkyo models. Here's a link if anyone else needs it.

Saw no SPAM there as it is the AVS forum. The link won't work as the rules dictate.

How much do service centers charge to update and how can I tell my version number?
