Default explorer 8300HDC reverts to 480i.

First off I want to say this forum has been really helpful for many of my questions. But I am still trying to sort out one problem....

Heres my hardware
TV: Insignia 37" 720p native res(yeah i know insignia... got an amazing deal on it)
STB: Explorer 8300HDC connected to HDMI

Heres the problem
When I turn the TV or Both STB and TV off then on, my output settings revert from 1080i/720p in HD channels and 480p in SD channels to all 480i. The only way to get it back is to turn STB off and go back through advanced settings.

I have done about 3 hrs of searching here and havent found much of anything.

Methods I have tried to resolve it: set STB to auto/DVI and enable all settings, and also only 720,1080. Also have tried fixed with all on and just 720, still nothing.

Is there anyway to keep the settings so I can turn my TV off??? Will switching to component fix it?

thanks in advanced for any advice

Default I may have found a solution

ok while waiting for a reply i decided to mess around with the settings. i switched to component, and used advanced setting to set it to 1080,720 and both 480p.
then i turned box on. after shutting it off, and switching inputs on tv, i hooked up hdmi and went through and set the output setting the same as with component 1080, 720, and both 480p

so far so good, when i power off the tv and both STB and tv it seems to keep the settings i had, and not revert to 480i.

I think from reading the problem with the box is that when it doesnt detect a signal from the tv's hdmi it auto switches to the component until it gets the HDMI signal again, and with the component not set up for the settings i wanted, it went to defaults.

hopefully someone can confirm this on their own problematic systems.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I was having the exact same problem with my setup and was going out of my mind trying to figure it out. I received a 'brand new' unit (after complaining about the 3 other boxes I went through in the previous 24 hours due to other 'problems') straight out of the unopened box so I was relatively sure it wasn't a case of a 'broken' box. I followed your instructions and 24 hours later it is working perfectly. The only thing I haven't tried yet is unplug the box (I don't want to mess up a good thing). I just printed out these instructions and taped them to the bottom of the box just in case something happens later on.

BTW: I'm on TWC in a western suburb of Cleveland

Default Explorer 8300HDC reverts to 480i

I have had this same issue with a new 8300HDC. My old 8300HD would always keep the 1080i format. However, it's HD died and Comcast replaced it with the 8300HDC. Now, every time I change my TV input (say to watch a DVD), the 8300HDC changes to 480i. It also does this everytime you power everything down.

I have tried your solution and will let you know what happens. I did notice however, that when I accessed the setup with the component cables hooked up, the settings were the same as what they were when I had the HDMI connector hooked up. Likewise, after running through the setup with the component hookup, and shuting down, and connecting the HDMI cable, the settings were once again the same.

I hope your solution works. This is driving me crazy.
