OK I've got the Onkyo 605, Toshiba 65" DLP, HD-30, Cable STB, FTA Satellite Receiver. So if I connect the Cable STB and HD-30 to HDMI IN's and FTA receiver to Component IN should then have one cable going from the 605 HDMI OUT to TV HDMI IN? Will I be able to receive picture and sound from all three of my components by just having one HDMI cable going from the 605 to the TV? The only problem I see here is that since right now I have the three components connected to 3 different inputs on my TV (have not setup my A/V receiver and speakers yet), the picture settings are different for each source. If I have just one input on the TV connect and the picture settings will be off for like the HD compared to the cable and FTA receiver? How would you guys recommend I connect my three sources to maximizes the TV's picture settings?

What happens with the 605, is you have to assign a connection to an input. For example, if you connect your set top box to the 605 through "HDMI in 1" on the 605, you would have to assign "HDMI in 1" to one of the receiver buttons (i.e. Cable/Satellite). Then, when you select Cable/Satellite as your source, it will display the picture and produce the sound. Same rules apply for the HD-30. With the component connection, it's a little different. You would put the component cables into say "Component1" In on the 605. You would then assign that to one of the source buttons on the 605. For sound, however, you would need to connect either an optical or coax digital cable to the 605. You would then assign the source button for that input with a digital input (either coax 1/2 or optical 1/2). Now, you CAN have the 605 output everything to the TV via HDMI and only have the one cable to the TV. HOWEVER, if the STA is outputting 1080i (and maybe 1080p), sending the component signal through HDMI will downcovert it to 720p. If you are doing 1080i from the STA, and go component out to the TV instead of HDMI, you will still get 1080i. This is what I do with my XBOX 360. It's late, so I hope I didn't confuse you too much. If anything is unclear, let me know or PM me. Maybe others can chime in and clarify or mention something I may have missed. |

If you need to use different TV picture settings for your various video sources, then (as you say) you need to have different video sources plugged into different TV inputs. Otherwise, there's no way for the TV to know where the video is coming from so that it knows which picture settings to use.
