Default onkyo 605 question

I've been reading through several threads here and on the AVS onkyo 605 owners forum. I'm confused with regards to how the 605 handles HDMI in --> HDMI out. My interpretation, after reading many posts , is that the 605 treats HDMI in --> HDMI out as "passthru", e.g. 480i in --> 480i out, 1080i in -->1080i out, etc. However, my understanding of "passthru" is that the receiver cannot process and output audio. Can someone clarify this? Can the 605 process audio from HDMI input and output the audio through speakers connected to the receiver? The onkyo site lists a HDMI "repeater" for the 605. Does this allow the 605 to process/output audio from a HDMI source even though it's "passthru"?

I'm considering the 605. I'm looking for a receiver that specifically will process audio from a 1080i HDMI source and not "down-convert" the video to 720p in the process.

Thanks.

From checking out the information in the link below. I see that the 605 will take any input and upconvert to send out via the HDMI. So no worries about downconverting 1080i to 720p. Yes, the 605 will process the sound via HDMI and send it to the speakers connected to it.

Thanks deadhead. Actually, my understanding is that only non-HDMI inputs are upscaled to be sent out HDMI. HDMI inputs are "passthru" to the HDMI output. Also, the upscaling is to 720p. As such, all signals into component (for example), will be scaled to 720p for HDMI output. This includes 1080 signals, which would be down-converted to 720. Thus the question about passthru. Just wanted to make sure that the 605 could process audio from HDMI input. Thanks again for the response.

Not that confirmation is needed but I find that to be on the money.

If you do not mind - quick thread highjack...

Does the 605 have a sound delay feature in order to adjust for video/sound sync?
