Default What, I thought I had a 1080p player!!!

I have a Toshiba A2KU HDDVD player. When I bought it the salesman told me it would play videos in 1080P. Wrong. Toshiba Confirmed it doesn't either.
I just clicked on the display button on the remote and much to my surprise it says 1080i. The movies I've been playing say 1080p on the box.
My dealer says not to worry because my 65" Mitsubishi WD-65732 TV converts it through interlacing (hat ever that is) to 1080p. Couldn't prove it by me.
Does anyone know if he's right or just handing me a line.
Thanks
Floyd

As you have found out, the A2 does not output in 1080p, just 1080i. Your TV is 1080p, so it will take the 1080i signal and de-interlace it to display as 1080p. Your TV will take any signal, 480i, 480p, or 720p and convert/de-interlace it to the TV's native resolution of 1080p. You will most likely not see and real difference watching an HD-DVD with the output set to 1080i as compated to 1080p. The same information is there.

Most Salesmen are dumb and inexperienced, please do your homework before going to the store. Talking to the Salemen doesn't count as research.

That being said, your tv will display it in 1080p if it deinterlaces the signal properly.
