Default new to the hd dvr thing and need help

ive never used dvr before and i was thinking of getting myself one for the holidays, anyhow i would like to know how i could record not just tv but game/dvd clips and be able to transfer to a computer to do some video editing of my own. also i did some searches recently and i keep seeing that you have to pay a fee for some of these types of things to be hones i dont think i would use it as much to justify a fee so im looking for a one time buy type thing.

long story short anyone have any ideals of where i could find one like this or point me in the right direction? is hd dvr even what i am looking for?

How do you get you HDTV signal? OTA, Cable, or Satellite? A Tivo or a ReplayTV (and others) will network with your computer-- so you can display content from the computer. BUT-- you will not be able to copy any HD content . . .

Hi,
This is my first time posting anything on this forum. As of yet, I don't know how to post a new message. Could somebody explain this to me? In addition, I just had a Panasonic58 1080p plasma TV installed yesterday. I have an existing surround sound. The geeksquad suggested that I get an HD receiver and a new woofer. So far, I think the picture is great. Will a new receiver make a differens in the picture, or just the sound? Thanks, Art

Your best bet may simply be getting a capture card for your PC. Just capture the video you want right from your cable box, game system..etc.
