Can you guys help me understand something?
Why is it when PS3 has a price drop everybody craps on it and says, "How sad, Sony is already having a price drop for a system that is not even a year old." But, when HD DVD players drop down to $99-$199 everybody says how great it is and how awesome Toshiba is for allowing their product to sell at such a low price? Do you ever think that maybe HD DVD is not doing well and that's why they are dropping the prices so dramatically as of late? Just a thought. |

It is more like we say a decontented PS3 for $399 (cannot play PS2 titles any more) is not going to suddenly reverse the sales trend and suddenly put Sony back on track for market domination and winning the format war. If you can link to someone of us that is reputable posting that please give it to us and we can see who said it and why they would.

PS3 is first and foremost a game console, and price drops usually take a lot longer. I think Sony's price drops are simply because they are not selling enough and well behind their target goal. So they need to do something to get closer to their target. Fewer player sales not only means fewer blu-ray sales, but means fewer game sales (where they make even more money). Toshiba on the other hand is clearly doing this to boost HD DVD. And the product they are doing it with is a 2nd gen product and the 3rd gen is available now. Its VERY different situations.
