Which models compete with Onkyo 605?

I really like the Onkyo 605, but I was wondering which models compete with it. The features that I like are the HDMI switching and upconversion. The 7.1 isn't as important, but it would be nice.

There really isn't anything that compares feature for feature with the Onkyo TX-SR605. It is a great receiver and I don't think you could do better for the price point. I purchased one when they first came out and it really is spectacular. There are many other quality brands available though and if you really want to compare try Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, Harmon Kardon etc.

I know this id the High Def Forum, but I plan on getting there as soon as I can run Direct TV with one cable- soon! I have Direct TV standard definition. I am buying a Sony KDL40W3000 that has the on board electronics to convert 480i etc to 1080p. Would it be redundant and unnecessary to have a receiver that does that too? I am worried that my picture quality will be worse with the LCD than what I am enjoying now (basically an excellent picture) with my old 26” Sansui tube tv (help me!!). I have basically decided to get the Onkyo 605, which attracted me to this thread, would there be any conflict between the processing by the receiver and the processing by the TV? Thanks for your help.
