Default listening mode on receiver

well, i just got the onkyo 805 and there are about 20 different listening modes sooo, what is the best way to figure this out, guess just by listening but it gets a little overwelming, for example what mode do u guys listen to football games in, or should i say watch? thx cinema is ok but let me get some opinions

You really have to try them out. Sound is subjective and everyone has their own personal tastes. I still have yet to try all of the surround modes on my TX-SR805 cause I'm so busy trying out all of the other features.

Isn't there something called NORMAL??

Sort of kidding here, but, really, all that money for a great multi-channel audio amp, seems like any "mode" would simply distort the natural output. What am I missing?

I've mostly use the "Dolby Pro Logic IIx" and switch between movie and music, depending on what I'm listening to.

You have the 805 so I would be interested to see how the THX modes sound.
