Default MTS setting

I have a pioneer 4240 HDTV running a Yamaha HTR5830 5.1 sound system. Some times while watching an HDTV broadcast when it breaks to the commercial I get no sound. (not bad I guess) but then there are other HDTV channels that dont get any sound except for a low bass. Comcast tells me that they broadcast in other languages so I need to turn the MTS/SAP off on the TV. When I hit the MTS button nothing happens the light just blinks on the controller. I am also running optical connection to and from the DVD playrer and the TV....any help?
