Default Installing HD Directv versus installing Directv without HD

If one can install Directv dish with HD, is it much more complicated to install an HD Directv dish?

We would like to upgrade to HD, but we aren't sure if it will be a very easy switch or if we will need professional help for this. We did not use professional help for what we have now.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

You need a newer dish with 3 or 5 LNBs (depends on if you want MPEG4) and a new HD receiver (MPEG2 or MPEG4) depending on if you want your digital locals off sat or antenna.

I just installed the 3 LNB dish this past weekend and it was really very easy. Just be sure you have enough clearence for the larger dish. My old dish was mounted on side of the house but the new dish did not have the needed clearence to mount there so I had to move it to a nearby fence post. From what I've seen the 5 LNB is much more difficult to install, even the installers have problems because it's so new.

I too installed the 3LNB HD dish last summer. For me it was a simple matter of popping the old dish off the pole and putting the new one on. Used the same mount so there was no need to bolt a new on one & make sure it was level, etc.

My SD dish had two coaxial runs feeding to four from a multi-switch. But since the new dish had four outputs I had to do away with the switch and run all cabling directly from the dish.
