Hello all,
I have an LG LCD (42LD550), Sony STR-DE575 5.1 DD surround receiver, and DISH 722VIP Satellite receiver. If I have the satellite hooked up to the TV using HDMI, sound comes out of TV with no issues just great, but oviously I want DD surround. If I run optical from TV to stereo, DD will not passthrough the TV and I only get 2 ch audio (I understand this is known as HDCP protection). If I run HDMI to TV for picture, then optical cable from the satellite to the stereo, I achieve DD surround, but now have a horrible lip/audio sync issue on most channels. I don't beleive my receiver has an audio delay feature, correct me if I'm wrong. I know that one solution may be to purchase a receiver which supports HDMI passthrough (mine now is pre-HDMI) and go from satellite to reciever by HDMI, then HDMI out from reciever to TV. This should produce DD surround at the stereo then passthough 1080p picture to the TV right? Will I loose any picture quality using this method by going through the receiver? What about the refresh rate? If I change to a plasma TV with 600hz will I still achieve this by passing through the reciever first? Does anyone out there know of a method to 'hack' or 'bypass' the HDCP protection at the TV to allow the passthrough of DD audio? Thank you in advance |

Run component to the TV and HDMI to the Sony and then to the TV.
Problem solved...HD on both inputs and no lip sync issue when using HDMI. Only thing is to change inputs on the TV when switching from TV speakers to surround sound speakers. Easy and cheap...
