Unhappy Audio Output issues on HDMI

Hi,

I have the following setup - A Samsung 52" LCD LA52M81, a Denon Receiver AV-1709, A Philips DVD Player (HDMI capable), A Samsung Laptop R522 with HDMI out and a STB(NO HDMI) for satellite television and a 5.1 JAMO system.

The connections -
One HDMI OUT from the receiver to HDMI IN of the LCD

One HDMI OUT from the DVD player to HDMI IN of the Reciver - Problem: Video OK no sound on the speakers, but sound is there on the LCD- Any Solution?

One HDMI OUT from the Laptop to HDMI IN of the Reciver - Problem: Video OK no sound on the speakers, but sound is there on the LCD- Any Solution?

One Composite Video OUT from the receiver to Composite Video IN of the LCD

One Composite Audio & Video OUT from the STD to Composite Audio & Video IN of the Receiver (Video is OK ans sound is there on the speakers)

I need solutions to the above mentioned problems. Besides that is there a way to have only HDMI out from the receiver even though the INPUT signal from the STB is Composite Audio & Video.

Somebody please advise.

Thanks,

Satyen

My guess is that you need to "assign" the audio to the proper video inputs via the audio setup menu.

Check out page 25 of the owners manual.

As deadhead said, the manual can explain, step by step, how to assign both audio and video inputs. It is not always easy for someone that isn't familiar with electronics to understand.

If you still have questions after reading the manual, please ask.

I believe the Denon 1709 does HDMI video switching, which means it does not process audio. It merely passes HDMI audio through to the TV. You need a separate audio connection (optical or digital coax) to get surround sound using that receiver. See the NOTE in the text box on p10 of the manual.

You are correct. This receiver needs a seperate digital audio input for each HDMI input. Good catch. I did not even think to look at that.
