Default What studios produce CW and MYTV

My area has ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, CW, and MYTV. The first five affiliates are recognizable, but the last two recently popped up. I was wondering are these two re-incarnations of the WB and UPN?

The CW is WB and UPN programming as for MYTV, I'm not sure.

More misinformation from tipstir.

Loves2Watch is correct. The CW was formed by the merger of the UPN and WB networks. Unfortunately too many of the crappy UPN programs survived at the expense of higher quality WB programs.

MyTV is not related to either UPN or the WB.

The UPN programs that carried over were Top Model, Veronica Mars, Friday Smackdown, Everybody Hates Chris, and a three other comedies. Although I'm not a fan of any of these, they all got very high ratings with viewers, which is why they were kept.

The only WB program that was not carried over, and should have been (imho), was Everwood. All the rest of the good WB shows were moved to CW.

WB and UPN were on the verge of bankruptcy. So similar to Sirius Satellite and XM Radio, they decided to merge rather than die. UPN/WB became CW - sharing their programs. ----- That left approximately one station per city without a network, so rather than become independents, FOX Studios took some programs that were in development (telenovels), moved them from afternoons to primetime, and formed the new MyNetworkTV.

CW is still relatively healthy with teenaged soaps like 90210, Smallville, Supernatural, and Gossip Girl, but MyNetTV is on its last legs. This fall MNT won't be showing any original programs - just reruns. (Kinda like a broadcast version of TNT.)

In my Indianapolis Market, I have one CW network station and as soon as they finish constructing a new tower, I will have two. And both CW's will be owned by the same company and will show identical programming. With just one offering per time slots and no use of multicasts.

As it is, once in a blue moon, CW shows something worth watching, but mostly CW is not even up standard network Newton Minnow vast wasteland. But that is an opinion based comment, I might hope CW goes broke, but then my fear would become religious based programmers buying the hardware, as if I don't already have too many religious broadcast channels as it is.

Interesting I guess lack of backers and funds.. Smallville and Supernatural are the best but the rest are crap. I've been to UPN studios but now gone or converted as you say. FOX has been taken over the Brits and so has NBC. Not much on the TV for games shows and some talent stuff if you look at it. NBC always had DATELINE on mostly every night until that got boring..

Channels like Chiller (NBC/Syfy) and Syfy (NBC) show some darn good stuff but soon they'll run out of ideas. Syfy Saturday and Sunday night movies have been low B types and crap! Which goes from the Syfy to Chiller channel.

MyNetTV started with telenovels on the theory that they are extremely popular in South America, Europe, and Asia so they should be a hit here. I thought they were low-budget but good stories, however the station owners complained that only 0.8% of the viewers were watching. So MyNetTV switched to reality shows like Jail, and Magics Greatest Secrets, but those shows performed even worse. Now they've given-up and gone with L&O reruns.

CW would be a good network if they produced the same quality shows as its parents WB and UPN. i.e. Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Felicity, Seventh Heaven, Dawson's Creek, Buffy, Angel, Roswell, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Gilmore Girls, and so on.

But whoever has taken-over CW seems deliberately intent upon not producing these types of shows, and instead making junk like 90210, Melrose Place, or Gossip Girl. CW needs to get back Joss Whedon, JJ Abrahms, and the others who helped WB produce its quality shows.

No question that there is a lot more junk on television than before, but there is also a lot more great stuff on television than before, and while most everything on HBO and Showtime fall into the latter category, there is a lot more great stuff on television from other sources as well. The (non-premium) cable networks used to show exclusively syndication rebroadcasts of shows from broadcast (and premium) sources, but now put out some of the best television on television (including the wholly excellent Mad Men, the new season for which is starting next week). In addition, even the broadcast networks are presenting some of the best television that they've ever presented (along with some of the worst television that they've ever presented).

I don't think I've ever watched more then one or two shows at all on the CW or MyTV stations. Last thing I watched was on CW.

The problem being that I can hardly ever watch MyTV because the f***ing retards put both stations on the same tower and thus are on the same frequency. The problem with this is that despite that they have different virtual channels, my primary TV viewing software (WatchHDTV if you must know) can't view MyTV 99% of the time because it can only lock on to the CW virtual channel and can't lock onto another seperate virtual channel if it's on the same RF channel (subchannels it has no trouble with). I will not use anything else to watch it because WatchHDTV isn't bloated with a whole bunch of crap I don't and costs money. Only software I use is either free or "cracked". :P

It's a bare bones viewer with simple timeshifting and recording and that's all that I need for now....If MyTV can't get their own tower, then they can go screw themselves as I won't be watching anything on that channel if my can't get to it. Every now and then WatchHDTV will get lucky and manage to get MyNetworkTV by accident when I surf through the two channels. But that's quite rare.

Sigh...They used to have MyNetworkTV and the Telemondo station on subchannels of 22 (the main channel that CW uses). (22.1, 22.2, 22.3 for example)when they first went digital and that worked great but now they decided to use different virtual channels. Telemondo I think has it's own tower now, so I could lock on to that just fine....if I spoke spanish.... :P

I'd file a complaint about it, but I'm pretty sure they would just ignore me as this seems to only effect WatchHDTV and doesn't cause problems with TVs or converter boxes. If it did, I bet they would have fixed it long ago had it caused issues.

It's been nearly a full year since they went to the separate virtual channels. I see no fix in the future.

I hardly ever watch anything on the TV nowadays. There's a few shows I'm keeping track of but they are on summer leave right now and there's nothing but reality tv trash and crime dramas. I have never liked reality tv and I just wish that crap would die out already.

There's a new one that came out last night...called "There goes the Neighborhood" and another coming soon about dating in the dark or something...makes me want to vomit every time I see their stupid *** commercials...Don't get me started on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here!" I seriously thought that was one of SNLs skits because it (the commercial) came on right after SNL went to commercials. When I found out that it was a real show, I seriously said out load WTF?

That's NBC for you!

I have no real beef with crime dramas....there's just too many of them. That's the only issue I have with them...

I agree with that. Shows like Firefly, and Star Trek for example were great and we really need things like that today. Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles would be a good production for the CW.
