Default Philips introduces Ultra Widescreen Cinema LCD TV

The Philips Cinema 21:9 is said to be the planet's first cinema-proportioned LCD TV & of course, it'll also incorporate Ambilight technology around the borders.

The Cinema 21:9 boasts a 56 ” screen that is shaped in the 21:9 aspect ratio, so movies in the 2.39:1 format completely fill the screen.

i hate spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on my set-up only to have a filmmaker film in a certain aspect ratio that is not compatible with consumer products.....

why didnt we just do 21:9 tv's in the first place...sheesh....

i for one vote for this.....i thought letterbox editions were a thing of the early 90's

Philips Cinema 21:9 is the world’s first cinema-proportioned LCD HDTV. You can watch the video to have an idea how good Cinema 21:9 proportion here.

2.35:1 Can be cinema porportioned....when they're showing movies at that aspect ratio. If they were showing something like Back To The Future or Jurassic Park, which are 1.85:1, then the sides of the screen (or panel at the bottom of the screen, as the case may be) will be moved in to accomodate the smaller ratio. So saying cinema porportioned can vary depending on which widescreen you're talking about.
