400 GB optical disc from Pioneer, 1 TB in the near future
Pioneer showed its super multi-layer read-only optical disc, with a total capacity of 400GB at the IT Month fair in Taipei. This amount is huge compared to 25 GB single layer Blu-ray discs.
 The technology of the super multi-layer read-only disc is based on Blu-ray Disc, with a breakthrough in material of reflective layers. In the near future 1 TB will be possible with this technology. 400 GB optical disc from Pioneer |

TDK made a similar disc, but their disc was 33.3 gig per layer, and thus only 12 layers thick. I'm surprised Pioneer took the "brute force" approach of laying-down 16 layers on top of one another.
