Time is precious.. I seem to be getting reminded of this more and more in my life...
Yeah, it almost seems HDF is cursed. PFC5 and Kosty were both around my age (I had thought Kosty was older), so that's probably a part of the reason we were able to connect so well. And yes, it's a reminder of how precious time is.

I've gone ahead and re-opened the guest book, so anyone that wants to add a note there can do so.

Has anyone been able to leave a guest book entry? I tried but it didn't show up and I only see four entries.

Comments I had seen from Kosty made me believe he was close to my age, 60. I guess to our young members, 53 probably does seem close to 60 but he was my baby sister's age which doesn't seem close to my age to me.

We have lost a few members here but that is no different than other forums I visit and no different than my real life friends, people are living longer than ever on average but that doesn't mean nobody dies in their 50s, a small percentage will. My 1970 high school class of 64 lost one this year, someone I thought was in great physical condition died of a heart attack. Time is precious.

Kosty was a true gentlemen and his posting style showed it during the many heated debates here and elsewhere.

I will miss your enthusiasm towards our shared hobby Kosty.

I found his West Point yearbook entry which sheds a bit more light on his younger identity and accomplishments.

Kosty and I had many many discussions over the years about females in the military and their role in WWII. He helped me write a college paper once about a female spy from that era.

My out of forum conversations with him are truly missed.

HDF's posting on his guest book entries are now showing up, as also those from other forums as well.
A tribute as to how well he was liked and respected by those he came into contact with. A terrible loss to all of us and his family.

I loved chatting with Kosty back on some of the other sites but resorted to lurking on this site. When I saw this thread, I had to make an account to add my condolences to the list.

It was Kosty's enthusiasm for everything high-def back during the format war that got me to finally bite the bullet and join in. I loved checking his posts, his stats and his unbridled optimism for everything. You always knew that when you were chatting with him, you were chatting with someone who truly respected everyone and wanted to share his love for all things film.

It's not the same without him around and I'll definitely miss his contributions.

Kosty's sister Daria contacted me via the guestbook yesterday, she'd like to explain what happened so I've pointed her to this thread and invited her to leave a message here, or said I'll post it for her if she'd prefer.
