Damn.........

Reread the obituary and now I understand that his wife and Mother had already passed away, which now makes it perfectly clear why he never mentioned his wife.

Giz, thank you for this. You have done some good work here and brought closure to what many of us suspected. Damn.

Gonna read some of his posts from the past and drink a beer.

Googling around it looks like his wife passed in 1989.

It's a shame he didn't clue us into his illness sooner.

The odd thing is, a month passed between him 'leaving' and his death, so I wonder why he didn't login at all during that time? I wonder if he knew he was sick and he told us (a few times) he was going away on business as some sort of precaution? Hopefully we can get some more news on this (or that he's OK), but all evidence now points to him being gone. Someone at AVS works for HMM and has also confirmed Kosty hasn't sent him an e-mail in some time.

Quote:
I handle research at HMM and would receive regular emails from him up until a few weeks ago, when he indicated he would be busy with his business commitments and would pick up making charts from our data after that. Then I never heard from him again. I peek in on these forums from time to time and noticed he stopped posting here too, and some posters were wondering where he was so I just Googled his name and the bio in the obit was consistent with what I knew about him. But other than email exchanges I had never met him. But I never encountered anyone so enthusiastic about our charts.

I'm just wondering why he didn't just mention he was ill again. Unless it came on after he stopped posting. Either way I'm pretty sad. We had some heated debates. But we also had some good hearted PMs.
He was incredibly private. He revealed his first name to me, once, by mere accident when he Screenshotted some HD DVD Docs for me in regards to an unreleased player. Aside from that...nothing. Amazing how you talk to someone for 7 years and know very little about him. He knew a lot about me from me PMs and such.

It's such a shame he never sent anyone a PM to let them know about his illness. Maybe it was sudden...maybe not. I'll keep digging to see if I can gather anymore information.

Ah, that's crap, but as I'd feared - I was hoping there'd be some other explanation, but when I saw the "I'm going to be busy for a while" stuff it just reminded me of how my father was when he knew he was dying.

RIP Kosty.

Does anybody know the cause of death? I believe Robert Zohn was a Kosty Facebook friend, maybe he knows cause of death but I will be very surprised if it is not cancer. I will send Robert a message and ask.

May he rest in peace.

I never got to know Kosty. He was somewhat before my time.

I e-mailed several people I knew to be in contact with Kosty and not one person replied. It wasn't until a researcher at AVS posted details yesterday (possibly triggered by my unanswered e-mail to Tom Arnold?).

I, like many others, believe Kosty knew and the "i'm busy with work" was just his way of telling us he may or may not be back anytime soon.

Kosty was very much like Loves2watch, very open and friendly on the forum, but also very private in the home life L2W suffered for many years containing his medical problems until his final battles. Only a few of us were aware of his condition and sworn to secrecy by him, he sought no pity, and even to those of us who new him very well, he kept those secrets to himself. If Kosty suffered, he keep it to himself, I can only pray he didn't suffer in his final days.

Well this is just tragic.. Like many of you, I had suspected that something bad had happened to Kosty and I feared the worst. Reading through the obituary, I have zero doubt this is Kosty as both of us had shared history about our military history including Air Assault and Ranger training.

I know throughout the years many of us have disagreed with Kosty but I have to say the man was a true gentleman through thick or thin. Never one to hold grudges, even when personally and blatantly attacked, he would just move forward and always seem to have a positive outlook. Few people are built this way and I really wish Kosty was someone I knew outside an Internet forum. As I suspect he was the type of friend who was selfless, and would give you the shirt off his back.

I am 100% convinced that Kosty is somewhere right now watching a good movie in hidef with the ones he loved.

He really will be missed, and my heart goes out to his family.

RIP, Kosty...

Yes Ack, Kosty was an optimist and was able to see the good side in everybody. He was a true HD fan, especially Blu-ray, and spent countless hours keeping track of it sales progress for the benefit of everyone. His enthusiasm was infectious and it was that which inspired me to start keeping track of Blu-ray releases in my weekly tables. Kosty wanted it all to be fun and with him, it was. Even in disagreements, which were many, everybody was having fun with him around. And nobody enjoyed it all more than Kosty.

It's hard to believe he's really gone, it's shocking and will take some getting used to. And with his infectious enthusiasm gone forever, it's not going to be quite the same around here anymore.

I sure hate this as Kosty was such a friendly and professional person. Despite all of the grief he took from members here and on several other forums he still managed to take the high road as PFC would have said. You will be definitely be missed.

It is shocking how many prominent members of this forum have died recently. PFC5, Kosty, Loves2watch, etc.

I remember when I first learned that PFC5 passed out of the blue and it just put a dark cloud over my day, and I feel much the same about Kosty. Rather depressing that we will never see another chart, graph, commentary, post from his local Walmart, etc.

Time is precious.. I seem to be getting reminded of this more and more in my life...

Thanks for digging into this. I honestly was afraid what you were going to find...

I agree, too about the "busy with work" comment. This was a huge hobby for Kosty. I know this. The guy must have put up a good fight judging by his background. Kosty was not a pushover. You don't make it through the Military Training Academy, jump school, air assault school, and Ranger school without being mentally and physically tough.
