They're not real HD sources...that can only come from the studio New Line Cinema and they have never released any HD version of LOTR. The 720p and 1080p versions you're noting aren't real HD. Maybe upconverted from DVDs.

Don't exist. You can make them yourself as others suggested but that's it.

Anyone else think it was kinda weird how many first time posters are in this thread..

That's what they do. Basically create new accounts and talk to themselves to give the impression that what they are saying is legit.

I think we should hold their eyelids open with toothpicks and make them watch "Facts of Life" reruns!

Why would anyone claim that HD versions of LOTR don't exist and that any and all HD versions "out there" must be upconverted?

The HD versions of LOTR *do* exist, and is *out* in the wild. They've been broadcast on HDTV - I know because I watched the damn things.

As for them being online, I am sure it was capped by someone and thrown onto the web via torrents, etc.

Now, details are a bit fuzzy, but I think the broadcast back then was 720p... but I would be wrong. It was a while back.

As for a Blu-Ray release, not out yet, but rest assured that once it hits the release schedules, the web will be buzzing about it.

I believe the source of all of the LOTR films available as bootlegs online were Starz! 1080i broadcasts. I have read quality is pretty good, but I would expect the upcoming Blu-ray releases to be much better.
