Default No 3-D Version in Monsters vs. Aliens Blu-ray

Quote:
As we reported on Monday, 'Monsters vs. Aliens' will be released on Blu-ray on September 29. However, the edition won't include the movie in 3-D, despite its great success with theatrical 3-D showings. The reason given is that the 3-D technology developed for movie screens couldn't be replicated in the home — at least, not yet.

What does that say about the quality of all the other 3D releases then?

What about the older films in 3D that were filmed using different 3D methods like Friday the 13th 3D... are they watered down 3D too or is the Blu presentation of them accurate to the theatre presentation?

They said that M v A was shot with the RealD 3D presentation in mind - which doesn't lend itself to a transfer over to anaglyph 3D very well.

Here is the quote:

Quote:
'The movie itself was developed with the notion of doing the RealD-Dolby experience in theaters, and those specs are not ideal for the anaglyph presentation' said Daly. 'It’s a completely different process, and when we started to look at how it would look in the home, we were not satisfied'.

I think they should not be releasing any 3D versions of movies with the current red/blue glasses anaglyth technology. It is far too gimmicky and doesn't work at all well. I know i wouldn't be able to make it through a whole film without a serious headache. Of course its a money spinner and people are attracted if it has 3D slapped all over the box.

I hope they hold off on any anaglyph 3D at all for Blu-ray until they can generate a spec by next year. They really have one chance to get 3D right for Blu-ray, I want them to do it right.

How is it the same Lee? I thought the Panasonic TV system uses shutter glasses whereas the Cinemas use polarisation. In my experience shutter glasses result in dimished image brightness incidently.

Both systems will diminish brightness of the image due to the eye wear. But the look of the images will be the same - full 1080 per eye image.
