Very good read Lee, thanks for finding and posting. It clearly answers many of the questions that folks on here have debated.
The economy, the cost of restoring the masters, the current demographic and sheer number of BD players, etc are very good reasons. This stood out to me as well: Quote:

Yes going deeper took longer as expected, but when the number of releases is only at about 1/5 for BD compared to SD DVD during the same time frame it is just much longer before classics (especially the modern classics it seems) will see the light of day.
It is good to see they are working on the top 100 films getting a BD release, but they still need more diversity also IMO.

That doesn't bode well for getting classic films released on BD. |

It isnt cause studios liked DVD better, it isnt cause of the PS3 demographic. Classics never really had a lot of general appeal according to this guy, and the high cost to remaster them so it actually looks decent in HD makes them harder to release for blu ray. |

But even with the PS3 the genre sales arent atypical, which is why they are 'typical.' The idea that PS3 owners have different buying habits from regular early adopters doesnt have any merit.
