Now that was funny.

I was just wondering which one of the judges happened to have an HD DVD player.

Obviously, someone with exquisite tastes!
And, arguably, questionable judgment!

It seems this is just a DVD, not an HD DVD.

I referred to our company promo as a HD DVD...it is not!

It is NOT the HD DVD format.... it was filmed in HD 1080i for
Blu Ray....but was too expensive for me to produce in the Blu
Ray format. So, it was down converted a standard DVD....
that won 3 Telly Awards, was nominated for 5 Regional
Emmy Awards, and won 2 Emmy Awards for it's content as a
direct marketing promo, photography, nature & wildlife program.
It is a standard DVD that will play on all conventional DVD players,
computers with DVD player, and gaming stations.
The quality is awesome! It is FREE.....

The DVD features a group on a typical adventure with Classic
Alaska Charters and Captain Rob in the wilderness areas of
SE Alaska, cruising, fishing, wildlife viewing, crabbing and
shrimping, hiking and more. The scenery is incredible, action
unforgettable!

Even though this is a "standard" award winning DVD and NOT
a collectible HD DVD (dead format!)....if you're still interested in
viewing the great content and a potential adventure with
us at Classic Alaska Charters please contact us!

Thanks,
Captain Rob

Captain Rob,

This would be a great opportunity for us to get an idea what it costs a smaller label to offer a Blu-Ray production.

It has been said in a number of places that Blu-Ray production is simply too expensive for smaller labels, but no one has ever mentioned what the numbers are. I've heard that the licensing fees are prohibitive.

Can you shed any light on this topic, as it would have a big impact on the kind of content I'm interested in coming out on Blu-Ray.

Yup. And they never, ever, ever go down. They will remain fixed. Forever. Because of Sony, right? Those evil bastards...

Captain Rob just made this a potential 30 page thread.

I agree though, I'm sure BD is not the best format for promotional video. Maybe when it's common for all BD players to support AVC-HD DVDs then they can send those out for High Def promotions.

Sadly my BD brethren, I don't see a Bowflex BD or a ShamWOW BD in the future...

Captain Rob seems to know about HD DVD a lot. Well, he knows that it is dead, and apparently a collectible! More than most people. Is HD DVD a bonafide collectible? I wasn't aware of that...I mean, I know bruceames thinks it is a collectible...but I am not sure that it can be granted collectible status at this point.

And on top of all of that, he actually found his way across the infinite worldwide web to land right here at HDF. The beehive of the format war. Fate I tell you, fate. Amazing that he would find this very forum to profess the mistake in, I mean out of all of the forums...he lands right here in our pocket!

Surely someone like bruceames must have alerted him about the DVD/HD DVD snafu and directed him here via email.

I mean, how else would Captain Rob find this place?

Anything can be a collectible in the eyes of the collector. If it holds value over time has yet to be seen, but I don't think Bruce is collecting them to sell.

As for Captain Rob's cameo, I'm sure someone from HDF asked him to explain the issue. Especially since he mentioned BD in a 'too expensive' manor.

Surely that can be the only explanation, right? Right?

It would be nice if the person that asked him to post told us all that they asked him to post, so that they can at least vouch for his presence.

This is the internet afterall...

If Captain Rob is smart, he'll just sail on by this discussion.

Since you have no idea what they'll do, why comment? Or are you using your "divine abilities"? You're going to need knee surgery from all of your knee-jerk, informationless responses to my posts.

I asked for real numbers--what they actually are--not what you wish they will be someday. If you have a problem with Captain Rob's comment, take it up with him. I'm sure you can convince him that he's wrong and a Blu-Ray production really wasn't too expensive for him
