the record is 8.5 million for TF'ers? ok, damn that's a lot! lol

I'll say 12 mill. Now if I'm wrong, I'll admit it and no one will ever listen to me again! LOL

DAMN 40 mil of Nemo?! Holy crap I had no idea.

I'll say first week blu sales of TDK are maybe 1 million?

Probably the best selling blu disc of the season.
Tho I think Wall e and Sleeping beauty might be contenders too.

WB probably figures they get higher sales saying that publically AND if TDK doesn't sell well, what will?

I sure wish Disney/Pixar would get the ball rolling for Nemo on BD.

McFly!
Excellent point. They "talk the talk about Blu-ray," but they're not "walking the walk."
As long as they keep Blu titles at current price levels, they are content to remain on the sidelines as far as Blu growth is concerned while they explore other viable options, IMO.

Yeah, but this thread is based on the Utimatum, which is worth its own thread. It's surprising that a WB exec could feel that Blu-ray future is in doubt.

Is it because the king of all trolls decided to highlight a quote 2/3's of the way down in the same article that's being discussed elsewhere?

And what ultimatum? Does the WB exec say that if BD doesn't meet certain standards that they'll stop releasing films on it? That any other studiios would also?

Mike's pissed cause he got the ban hammer at HDD, and he's migrated here in search of fresh lemmings and old cronies. End of story.

Read the whole article. It is enlightening. According to Nielsen DVD sales are off 9%. That is approx $1.4 billion. I can see why the studios are worried as there is no way Blu-Ray and downloads are going to make up that loss unless they have a massive Q4.

Do or die seems more like positioning yet again from the studios. Especially when you read Universal's comments in the article which are definitely not doom and gloom.

The only "ultimatum" was the word "ultimatum" typed by mikemorel in the OP. And if you believe him then you should also believe that I am Santa Clause.

A lot of people got burned by HD DVD. So we should stifle anyone that got burnt from stating they wonder if they will get burnt again by BD now that studios are expressing concerns about BD not catching on like they projected?

I have owned BOTH formats since their launch year in 2006 and I am concerned by these statements also.

So mikes only had 9 posts in 1.5 years.

That must be one slow internet connection.

Although I now know how many times he's been banned at HDD in that time span.

This thread is exactly what I stated.

Just to bring this thread back to perspective the title of the article is:
DVDs, Hollywood’s Profit Source, Are Sagging

Now do you think the average person who sees that headline is going to scrutinize the whole article looking for a quote from Warner about Blu-Ray? Sorry guys but people just do not do that. And if you do read the whole article there is a conflicting quote from Universal Studios.

And on top of that you have to be a registered user at The New York Times to even read the article.
