Open a Sony Style CC and get $150 off, with 12 months interest free financing. Unit comes out to $249.99 plus tax. If it had 5.1 analog outputs, I'd jump on the deal.

You are waiting for something that might not materialize. Go for the Sony Style Deal.

If I didn't have a intentional biased against credit cards I would do definitely do this offer. I have never owned a credit card to my name in my life and I never will. No credit card=lower debt.

Credit cards can work to your advantage if you are careful. I have a points card that we put everything on and I pay it off faithfully every month and do not incur any interest. I saved up the points (which you can get cashback from) and bought two iPhones with the cashback.

Obviously others stuggle with credit cards, but if you are careful you can make them work in your favor.

Slight correction on this... Sony has mandated that all games (disc based) be released on Blu-Ray. Regardless of the actual filesize. So going the route of having a non BD PS3 is not actually possible. That would leave a HUGE (albeit not big enough) catalog of games that simply would not play on such a device.

I understand what you're saying, but if you took the cash and put it in your checking account, opened the card, ordered the PS3, when the bill came in, paid it off from your checking account and then closed the card, no harm. Like anything else, it calls for self control.

Then I would say they made a serious mistake concerning added BD adoption. Limiting your company's method of production and availibity makes no sense at all, but then again we are talking about Sony (Mr. Propreitary itself).

IMO, it was brilliant. I honestly think they sacrificed the PS3 to the gaming gods to achieve their overall goals for BD. I don't think they will sell anywhere near the number of units that the PS2 did. But I don't think the 360 will either.

But it did accomplish what it needed to do. It firmly secured BD owners with every purchase.

And yet you bought a PS3?? Wouldn't the Magnavox player have been a better deal?

I bought the PS3 because of the WiFi capaiblity and intend to buy addtional games other than Medal of Honor, which is the only game I have thus far. The PS3 ended up being $299 during the Wal-Mart sale in June and I wanted a player that was future-proof update wise and the PS3 is definitely the machine for that.

First of all, the new 80GB is still compatible with PS1 games. Secondly, the 40GB does not play PS2 games. In fact, this new 80GB is IDENTICAL in every way to the 40GB except for the hard drive space and the dualshock 3.

I wanted PS2 compatibility and the card reader and extra USB slots, so I went with the MGS4 bundle before they were all gone

I never had a PS1 or PS2 so these points were irrelevant to my PS3 purchase anyway. I was referring to the Sony gaming addicted folks.
