You can add several others to that list too I have found from personal experience. Cast Away, I, Robot, and No Country for Old Men are some of the best live action transfers I have viewed.

I, Robot, I bought recently and have yet to watch it. Got to set some time away for that movie.

Hell yeah you do! I've surprisingly got a lot more picky with my HDM purchases apart from the blind buys lately and now am getting very selective as to which films I'll buy after a rental.

I-Robot is one of 2 BD rentals out of 30 to make it onto the "to buy" list.

I'll tell you two that made it to my "to own" list were The Lives of Others and The Counterfeiters. Definitely the best German films I have EVER seen in my life after Downfall.

Yeah, I have I, Robot and The Godfather to watch. I got about a weekend tied up. I should enjoy it.

I just asked the author of the article what the source of the 20% average was and she was kind enough to respond.

We actually used other sources, but would assume their data would be in line with ours. Individual retailers interviewed also worked out to about a 20% average. Hope that helps!

Susanne, is the 20% average for Iron Man blu-ray sales derived from Nielsen VideoScan data?

Wow, if 20% is anywhere close the actual ratio, Iron Man blew everyone's expectations out of the water. Last year, Transformers sold 8 million units in the first week. Being conservative on Iron Man, assuming it sold 5-6 million units in the first week, then the Iron Man Blu-ray could've sold in the 1-1.2 million range.

^^ If it sold 1 million or more I would expect some serious PR from Paramount and the BDA on this. The press will be all over this one.

Is that because Transformers BD was a little more expensive? I was in a warehouse store today, and saw BD's for under 25.00. I admit even though I don't have a Blu Ray player, I wanted to buy the disc. The packaging looked so good.

I may end up buying a player, if the prices go down, and the economy perks up a bit. CE says their was a 1% increase in sales in Aug.

Not doing all that great in sales here in my area. It's just sitting on the Blu-Ray booth at Wal-Marts. The DVD has already been re-stocked several times according to the Wal-Marteers.

Nobody is going to walk into Wal-Mart and spend $34.99 on a Blu-Ray movie when they can find the DVD version of the movie for $23.99.

Now Best Buy Canada and Future Shop are selling both BD and DVD versions with only a $4 to $5 difference which is worth the buy.

CE says their was a 1% increase in sales in Aug.? For now, but looking at the state of USA I can see a 50%+ drop in sales.

Now what sense does that make when the Canadian dollar is on par with the American dollar and my BD copy of Iron Man was $20?

The people you talk to are in a very precarious position. When I worked in retail it was an absolute no no to divulge ANY data on sales to anybody. A drop of 50% in sales? Do you realise how big that would be? 0.1% drops in spending send out alarm bells. For a sector to lose 50% in one month would = the end of that industry for the most part
