Here's a hint for the author, THAT AIN'T AN ATTRACTIVE PRICE! Plus, no one is buying it at that price anyway.
I paid $20 myself for Iron Man.

I would think all the catalogs they transfer will be great sellers in DVD. If this is so, then most catalog titles will have a higher price tag. Just hope they stay under $25 at the B&M stores.

This is what the article said:

The title also is attractively priced at $39.99, the same price as the standard two-disc special edition.
It's the same SRP price as the two-disc DVD set and yes, in a way that is an attactive price since it's not more expensive than the comparable DVD version. As we can read in the thread, people are also paying lower street prices for this title. Just like you could expect for the DVD version.

IMO that points more towards improving the BD catalog with attractive ("good") movies to help the format grow, than towards the imminent need to lower SRP prices by an amount X. It seems the "good" movies are selling pretty well, even with a SRP of almost $40. And the market seems to be able to provide lower street prices as well, if he wants to.

Just a thought.

That would help BD tremendously if BD could release a similiar result movie to Iron Man each month.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen, at least for the remainder of the year. There's some absolutely massive releases in the coming months.

Default Positive sign for BD

So according to engadethd the estimate is the sales split on Iron Man was 80% DVD 20% BD. I would have to say this is positive for BD adoption. I will say that similar to DVD adpotion, Iron Man is the kind of movie that you gravitate to better tech for. Scary Movie will not be any funnier on BD than DVD or even VHS. But it is the blockbuster that will be the first to be bought.

Let's see how Dark Knight will do on BD in the holiday season. That should be interesting. But BD will have to make this an ongoing trend. Every blockbuster here on out should break records and should also help drive sales of other types of films. The one problem with the backwards compatibilty is that some people (myself) will likely buy Dark Knight on BD, but Shrek or Wall-E on DVD and probably my comedies and dramas on DVD as well.

You'd buy Shrek and Wall-E exclusively on DVD? I couldn't imagine not having my CG movies in HD now, I think they provide the biggest night and day difference between SD and HD.

I disagree with that besides. This might piss Chris off, but without the portability of DVD, kids movies on HDM are otherwise useless to me.

If you disagree fair enough, but have a ganders at Cars if you don't see the difference, I'd book in for an eye check *runs*

For me its a given now that if a CGI film is coming out i will allway's bu it on Blu-ray. I used to think the DVDs looked amazing untill i saw animation in High-def. Now if i watch the DVD i feel like i am missing out big time.

If Iron Man has sold 20% that would be a fantastic achievement. I didn't think it would do as well as that. It makes you wonder what The Dark Knight will sell when it arrives. I'm sure it will do better than Iron Man. We could be looking at Blu-ray making some serious ground on DVD between now and christmas.

If given a choice of either WallE on Blu and Iron Man on DVD or Iron Man on Blu and WallE on DVD I'd pick WallE on Blu.

I can't wait to watch the first 20 dialogue-free minutes of this with 24-bit lossless audio.

Plus just watching the 1080p trailer from Apple.com lets you know this will just blow the DVD completely out of the water in PQ also.

Totally agree. Live action films can look fantastic in HD but CGI is just unbeatable. If i ever want to show someone what BD can do i will usually reach for Cars or Ratatouille!
