Arrow Mamma Mia! Offers a Blu-ray First

Quote:
Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release the $140 million box office hit Mamma Mia! The Movie December 16 on Blu-ray Disc, day-and-date with DVD.

Mamma Mia! will be presented in widescreen 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

A new twist is being put on commentaries with a Blu-ray exclusive sure to turn heads. With Mamma Mia!, it will be possible to record a video commentary while watching the film and then share that commentary with friends.

There are some missing details to how this creative use of Blu-ray's abilities will work. First, we assume any standard web cam will work with a standalone player and the Playstation Eye with PS3 but nothing has been confirmed. Second, will the commentary replay be a standalone video or play picture-in-picture with the film? We don't know yet.

In addition to BD-Live access and U-Control, other confirmed features are as follows with more to be announced.

My Mamma Mia! Commentary - Record your own video commentary while watching the movie and share it with friends (Blu-ray exclusive)
BD-Live (Blu-ray exclusive)
On-screen lyrics for 22 songs
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! Music Video
The Making of Mamma Mia!
Becoming a Singer
On-Location
And more...
Mamma Mia! The Movie on Blu-ray will carry an SRP of $39.98. Check back regularly for more details, high-res cover art and pre-order information.

This BD has the amount of supplements that a lot of mainstream titles need IMHO.

I agree that it's probably pointless for something like this, but what about something like Rocky Horror Picture Show?? There are some cities that still have the older style movie houses with an actual stage in front of the screen. During showings of RHPS, real actors will get up on stage and act out the movie right along as it plays.

Sounds cheesy, but I could something like this being done for followers of certain flicks and sharing it with friends.

A good selection of extra's on the BD but the recording your own commentary sound's like a silly gimmick which very few people would find useful.

I will rent this one for my wife as well. She wanted to see it. And she is a good sport about me buying and watching a lot of movies I want, I will most likely watch this one with her. At least this movie has a lossless track

I think the studios have seen the success of such sites such as YouTube and want the Blu-Ray extras to offer something new and exciting to draw in a new group of people. I think the studios want to push BD Live and other extras before resorting to dropping the price. But judging by the economy, they will be forced to drop the price regardless..

I agree, i think they are just exploring different avenues for interactive features. I dont think this commentary feature will win many people over but as long as they are exploring new option's they may find something that hit's the spot and appeal's to the consumer.
