So it's a Sony deal. Buy about $400 in Sony equipment and movies and you will get a $40 gift card for Target. Is that a deal?

Sure it is. If any consumer was committed to buying Sony equipment, this gives him a little savings. Who can argue about saving money?

So here's the "Deal" broken down:

Blu-ray player: $300
2 out of choice of 4 BD Movies from Target (Avg. $30 a piece): $60
Subtotal: $360
-$40.00 giftcard
Total: $320 before sales tax; after 7% sales tax $342.40.

That is not much of a deal. They are giving you about the same prices as ordering off of Amazon.

I suppose if a customer lives out in the wilderness and does not have even dialup that this would be a good deal, but that's about all it's good for IMHO.

Comparing it to Amazon, that's true. Target, BB and CC have always had higher prices than Amazon, we all know that. To the consumers that shop there instead of Amazon, this is a savings. It's certainly better than nothing.

Have you forgotten how many people shop at B&M stores instead of the likes of Amazon?

I just can't see how Sony can market it as a "deal." I suppose it's a deal if you're not a frugal person or maybe if you're just lazy when it comes to using a PC. I thought more and more people were turning to online ordering simply because it's more conveinent and it saves gas.

The thing is, I agree with how you see this. We all here pretty much are on-line junkies. Although there are alot of on-line junkies like us, there are still a large amount of folks buying in the traditional manner, shopping at their local B&M stores. These B&M shoppers know nothing about Amazon, or on-line shopping for the most part, and depend on B&M deals.

Like I said, we all here can get a better deal on-line, but the B&M shoppers don't know this. Every little sale helps.

Lets see. Amazon is cheap and Target is high. Target has a deal that gets them to Amazonish prices and somehow people see bad things. That's pretty amazing; dumb, but amazing.

These CE stores should really try to emulate Amazon's and DeepDiscount's pricing, especially for software. The sad part is that most of the time these CE stores don't even come close. So like I said this would be a great deal to someone who is too lazy to use a PC or they have more money than they do blades of grass in their yard.

I agree with your points again, but the reality is alot of people enjoy the traditional manners of shopping. Blu-ray would be doing better if all the B&M stores had comparable prices to Amazon. There's nothing I would enjoy more than to visit my local WM and buy some resonable priced blu movies and watched them that night.

I still know people that dont use online banking..
Theres also the security reason, theres alot of people out there that refuse to send out their credit card information over the phone or online.
