Arrow Paramount to Distribute More Marvel Films

Quote:
Following the success of Iron Man, Marvel Studios has reached a deal with Paramount Pictures to distribute five more films, including a previously unannounced third “Iron Man” film.

The deal also includes home entertainment distribution for the second “Iron Man” film, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers.

“It includes home entertainment, worldwide, and [for electronic delivery] it’s kind of a split: Marvel retains some distribution rights, and if they didn’t want to pursue that in some areas, we could do it for them,” said Patti Rockenwagner, EVP of corporate communications for Paramount Pictures.

The original Iron Man grossed $574 million worldwide. This is the first time a third film has been confirmed by Marvel.

“It’s obviously not made … there’s an option to make a third movie,” Rockenwagner said.

Before Iron Man, Marvel’s live-action properties had been floating around at other studios, including Universal (Hulk), 20th Century Fox (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil), Sony Pictures (Spider-Man, Ghost Rider) and New Line (Blade).

“Coming off of Iron Man’s incredible success this summer, we could not be more excited about extending our relationship with Marvel,” said Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures. “Marvel's iconic brand, its popular characters and its proven ability to create compelling and visually spellbinding films complement Paramount’s great history of filmmaking. We look forward to a long and successful run together.”

Iron Man 2 would be first in line for a theatrical release (May 7, 2010) followed by Thor (July 16, 2010), The First Avenger: Captain America (May 6, 2011) and The Avengers (July 15, 2011).

“Paramount is an excellent partner and an outstanding global distributor,” said Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel. “Through our experience on Iron Man, Paramount has demonstrated a passion and ability to release Marvel properties theatrically, allowing us to focus on making great movies for the largest audience possible.”

I sure wish they would release the Blade Trilogy on BD. Honestly, I'd be satisfied if only the first one was released on BD.

Isn't the Blade trilogy on New Line? I am almost sure of this on at least the 3rd one was New Line, but I would also like to see these come out on BD.

The only problem with the Blade Trilogy is it fell in that infamous sequel rut, that is, where the sequels have nothing to do with the original other than the main character and maybe a couple minor details. Another example of this problem were the Batman movies going from 89 to the late 90s. The first one was great and then they started veering way off track.

Talking about waivering from the main story line. Ever seen Halloween 3? Where did that come from? Then, they try to put it back on track with Halloween H2O.

I am a Marvel fanboy, particularly Iron Man, Captain America and The Avengers but I have one huge issue with these movies:

Will Smith is rumored to be the new Captain America. WTF??

I just can't see that either. Will Smith will pull that typical sarcastic, witty style, like he usually does and it just won't fit. IMO I feel that Bale would do well in this role.

I don't know how they are going to pull of Captain America in a live action film without making him look like a knob. That mask/leather helmet thingy is going to be hard to pull off and still look bad ass.

I hope they make a movie about the Marvel Civil War. Can't happen since different studios own the rights to different characters, but it would make a great trilogy.

Tony Stark shoots Captain America in the back at the end btw. Then The Punisher puts on the Captain America suit and it gets all weird. Then the Hulk just rips everything up with no regard for anything. Be a great movie.

Opps

Didn't think you guys would mind a small spoiler.

Next movie will be Iron Man 2 in 2010 followed by Thor in 2011. In 2012 Capt Amercia: The First Avenger will be an early summer release with The Avengers releasing following later that summer. Marvel wants to keep its own IP's this point forward so Fox and Sony can quit butchering their characters.

I read this timeline somwhere. Ill do a search.

I hope that rumor is wrong.. I like Will Smith, but not as Captain America. But I would still take Will Smith over Tom Cruise in this role

I think Araon Eckhart would be perfect..

Maybe they changed it in the OP article.
