There are a lot of boxes out there like this. I'm still waiting for one that'll read WAV/CUE and BIN/CUE files.

Sorry, but SD is just a move in the wrong direction and doesn't attract me in the least.

Care to explain how this is a move in the wrong direction? Moving away from spinning and scratchable media is wrong?

Speaking of rumors and Toshiba...so CEATEC started yesterday. No mention of that SRT DVD player hitting in 2008.

Anyone still clinging to that hope? Or should I just keep waiting patiently until 11:59pm on 12/31/08 for that promise by the CEO to come true?

San Jose (CA) – Sandisk today revealed more details about the upcoming SlotMusic, which appears to be an attempt to replace the traditional audio CD as a physical music storage format. Stored on 1 GB microSD cards without DRM, SlotMusic is an option for those who do not want to download their music, but purchase entire albums and play them in devices such as cellphones.

They just keep on digging.....

Sorry. This is going no where. Really. People like DVDs. Some people like BDs. I don't see the market for this at all. More expensive then DVD, lower quality than BD.

Did I miss something?

Grasping at straws is an understatement on this one.

Just like BD, HDM in general, and some people here, this is something that simply has to mature one day.

I don't have an iPod and I am not giving Apple a dime! However I do have USB ports on many of my HT equipment components.

Nikkei Electronics Asia

Toshiba Corp and SanDisk have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on the reallocation of wafer output and equipment ownership and funding at their two joint ventures (JV) producing NAND Flash memory on 300mm wafers at Toshiba's Yokkaichi Operations in Japan, in response to a proposal from SanDisk.

The move is designed to enhance the production flexibility of NAND Flash memory in line with the rapidly changing marketplace and to optimize each company's business strategy.

Fab 3 and Fab 4 at Toshiba's Yokkaichi Operations are currently operated by Flash Partners Ltd and Flash Alliance Ltd, the production JV between Toshiba and SanDisk. Investment in the manufacturing equipment installed at the two fabs is equally shared by Toshiba and SanDisk through the JVs, with the same capacity allocated to each company.

The revised allocation will make Toshiba the sole owner of some 30% of the total capacity. The remaining about 70% will still be owned by the JVs, and the production capacity allocated to the JVs will be divided equally between Toshiba and SanDisk. As a result, Toshiba's overall allocation of capacity in the two fabs will increase by about 30%.

By expanding its production capacity efficiently, Toshiba aims to increase sales of NAND Flash memories.

Samsung Drops Plan To Buy SanDisk

Quote:
Cites SanDisks Q3 Operating Losses

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 10/22/2008 9:55:00 AM
Seoul, South Korea — Samsung Electronics withdrew its proposal to buy SanDisk just two days after SanDisk announced a third-quarter $250 million operating loss, a 21 percent revenue to $821 million, and plans to significantly reduce its capital expenditures and operating expenses.

San Disk previously rebuffed Samsung’s unsolicited $26/share offer for all of its stock.
