Now, now...don't blame the format.

Has there been an official release? While it seems "real," I don't go off of "Guy A said..."

Glad to see they're taking immediate action, but this should have never happened. Big Quality Assurance issue here. Someone needs a ass chewing.

More official:

Iron Man Blu-ray Recalled; Possibly Delayed

The forums are lit up this morning with news that the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Iron Man' has been recalled. A few weeks back, some of those receiving review copies reported trouble playing the disc in their Blu-ray players. Apparently, there is an authoring problem with the disc, and distributors have been issued direction to send back all product.

According to those distributors, Paramount is doing everything possible to get enough replacement discs to retailers in time for its September 30th release date, but it may not be able to meet the demand. If Paramount can't get enough titles onto retail shelves, they may delay the title until October 7th.

Online retailers like Amazon are likely to ship first-come, first-serve, so make sure you have your pre-order in now if you haven't done so already.

I was kidding.. but we really don't know what the issue is.. if it is a BD-J issue.. then Blu could be to blame.. but most liekly.. it's a replication issue... It still does not look good for the Blu team.. with such a monter realese to have these issues, regardless of who's to blame.

Sept. 30 is supposed to be the release date.. who the heck gets these advanced copies?

This really sucks. It now gives Blu a stupid excuse for why the Ironman DVD massively outsold the BD. I was really hoping to use this movie as a gauge for how consumers currently view the two formats. It was a lopsided fight before, and now it's a completely unfair fight.

1) Already being discussed here:
Iron Man (2008) and The Incredible Hulk (2008) coming to Blu-ray Region A and B

2) From the Digital Bits:
Quote:
(EARLY UPDATE - 9/23/08 - 11:30 AM PDT)

Okay... we wanted to check in early this morning with a quick update.

...
Second, and more importantly, it appears that there's been a problem with Paramount's Iron Man Blu-ray Disc. We're getting reports from many retailers that the discs have been recalled, and they've had to ship back their stock. Apparently, there are issues with Disc One playing properly on select Sony Blu-ray player models. Indeed, not long after I received my review disc, I also received a "fixed" replacement copy of Disc One. The title is still set to street on 9/30 and we're currently hearing that fixed discs WILL be shipped to retailers in time to meet street date, so there should be no problems with the disc when you purchase it next week. We also suspect that if any bad discs do manage to hit store shelves on street date, a replacement program will be available for those consumers who need it. We've got inquiries into the studio on all this, so we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything official.

Back later with more, including (as it happens) an Iron Man review. Stay tuned...

The official word on the Iron Man BD is in from Paramount. The discs that will be available on street date at your local retailers WILL be fixed and working fine, so no worries. We're also told that because the discs will be corrected by street, there will be no need for any kind of exchange program. Just so you know.

Back later. Stay tuned...

Aren't you a part of the "Blu team"? I mean, you do support and own the format, right?

Shouldn't you also be a little upset about any potential problems?

You somehow seem happy about this...I can't think of one reason why....

Part of me wants it to fail because of the blu boyz (you know the ones I mean) and my dislike for the Sony machine (thier control over BD) but the other part of me knows how fricken Awesome Apocalypto, and others look and sound. This has pushed me towards buying SD versions over the BD version.

I don't know how SR can look better than an SD playing on my XA2 though.
Or are you picking up Iron Man on SD instead of bluray for use in your XA2???

Got my copy last saturday and it works fine in my UK PS3. Don't plan on changing my player as of yet so i'll stick with the disc they sent me.

No doubt by the time I get a new player a 3 disc director's cut will be forced upon us.

According to Bill Hunt Paramount pledges to have the correctly authored versions out in time for release next Tuesday. I am definitely a little worried. I pre-ordered the new SKU release at Amazon yesterday but may cancel it and try my luck at B&M stores on Tuesday.

There goes a bit of that one's profit margin... Don't look for this to be reduced anytime soon.

And HD DVD vs. DVD was what???? 49/51%?

We all know the DVD will sell tons...the only variable was what % bluray would steal.

I still think you will be able to make your little judgment come the end of 9/30 sales week..

So I guess you will be buying the S DVD version, huh?
