What's The Lowest Price a BD Player Will See This Year?
I tried to vary the poll as best I could. I included an 'other' option. Please don't spam the 'other' option unless you really think the player prices will all raise to above where they are now. We will then proceed to make fun of your mother. This is a public poll, witch hunt, flame thread poll. Per usual for me. Some call it accountability for vote skewing![]() Really, I just want to see where everyone sees the pricing getting to for the holiday. If Universal releases Munich, we could see some Jewish families getting 7 BD SALs for Channuka. That would be a plus IMO (sorry, watched Knocked Up last night )Also, do you plan to buy one this year? (Doesn't have to be a budget player, not part of the poll.) My vote is $99 for the Funai's that are on shelves now (Insignia, Magnavox, Sylvania) and 1.0 clearance sales. I might pick up the NetLogic depending on price and final spec. Looks like a great Bedroom player. I wonder what SoC it uses. (Don't forget, the SoC is the only part of the player that needs upgraded. With the Funai's using the same SoC as many other mainstream players, the firmware scare is less scary )

Please hold off on voting. I've PM'd PFC to get the poll to be changed to allow multiple choices.

I think players will get below $99 for the Funai's and 1.0 for at least a one day/weekend sale, and free players will be pushed out with HDTV purchase from most BD retailers.
I also agree with DobyBlue in that Sammy1500s and Panny BD30s will see long sales at $199 |

I'll go for $149
Though in the UK, Sony are already doing free Blu-ray players with selected HDTVs

I don't see them going under 199. I don't even think we'll see them that low. More like 249

I think $199 could be as low as player's will go this year. Maybe they will go lower to clear out some 1.0 machines though, who knows?

I voted $149 but I think there is some chance of a $99 special somewhere.

Also, lots of bundle deals will be offered by every CE company (except Toshiba) at every B&M store over the coming months. Last edited by Dave J; 09-07-2008 at 07:22 PM. |

Are there enough 1.0 players left to even have a big enough sale? I have no idea what the CEM will do. I think we can all agree that if we see a $99 sale it would be a below cost sale unless it's a lower tier CEM like Funai and they would of had to ramp up production to a much higher level to reduce costs.
The other options would be Sony since they could take a loss. Another CEM who got a waver on royalies to help ofset costs, if a CEM has a large stock of players left with new models coming out, or a B&M who is willing to loose money. I'm not sure what motive a CEM would have to sell at or below cost. Add to that all the BD press about how well BD players are selling so again what would be the motive be?

Since there weren't options for bundle deals, I also see the Funai players hitting $149 at their lowest.
I need to go and brag at my other forum home where I was probably the only person who said we'd see Sub $300 players before the holidays haha. Anyways, I think we'll see $149 Funai Players bundle with 2 or 3 movies, which in retrospect could bring the player cost to $99, but that wasn't an option so I picked the $149 option. |
