Yes, the biggest value will be in the DVD upscaling, unless by some chance the high end players actually output (slightly) better HD PQ as well. However, I think you've stated elsewhere that HD PQ differences among players are pretty much the same, right?

How much more than that would you expect? It's not supposed to be compared to Blu-ray.

And yes this new technology DOES do what it's supposed to, and that is apply selective enhancements via a dynamic algorithm. In other words it enhances the picture only where it is needed. No other DVD player does that.

The differences between Blu-ray players as far as Blu-ray picture quality is not much in my opinion with rare exceptions. The Panasonic DMP-BD10A/K and Samsung BD-P1000 are two that come to mind that are subpar compared to most others in my opinion. I believe there are no current players from the major manufacturers with Blu-ray picture quality issues. I am following a couple of discussions at AVSForums regarding that issue and will defer to those with technical equipment to evaluate that question. I just can't see much or anything comparing players. The bigger differences are with DVD playback.

I would like to see a Blu-ray player made with XDE or SRT. Toshiba has something here that has potential, but there is really not much of a market for high quality straight DVD players without Blu-ray. I do prefer the better players with Anchor Bay Technologies or Silicon Optix processing chips to this player but this player used a modest MPEG decoder and deinterlacer and was the first attempt. With a great DVD, I liked the picture as well as the better players. It might also be that there is no potential because player prices are so low now and the $40 or whatever it costs for the best chips purchased in bulk makes it a nonstarter and Toshiba will just bow out. I don't even know if Silicon Optix chips are going to be used in Blu-ray players going forward. Whatever it costs for the best chips is too much for a $200 Blu-ray player and probably too much for a $300 player. Samsung was the only mainstream manufacturer using Silicon Optix but the current liineup doesn't have one. That leaves Denon with their expensive Silicon Optix player and most of us will never know anybody that buys one of those. Oppo is the only manufacturer using Anchor Bay, the ABT2010, with a high quality MPEG decoder although which one hasn't been disclosed yet. The ABT2010 with Blu-ray and DVD processing should become a relatively popular option for the expensive players but most won't use the full potential like Oppo has.

It is possible, although the Denon model(s) are still current but I think manufactured before those Samsung players.
