I agree. I just scroll past them when I see crap like that.

Even when they are responding to me.

With the super resolution technology from NEC Electronics, even if the pictures are enlarged, the vividness and sharpness are processed and delivered by the hardware in real-time!

TOKYO —

NEC Electronics Corp said Tuesday it will start sample shipments of system large-scale integrated circuit chips for use in Blu-ray Disc players in September. The new chip, EMMA 3PF, supports all the necessary functions for Blu-ray Disc players with a board size half that of conventional chips. The embedded multicore central processing unit will speed up system boot up and improve operability, the company said.

NEC Electronics plans to start production in August with a monthly output of one million units. The price will be set at 15,000 yen per unit. The company sees the global market for Blu-ray Disc recorders and players expanding fivefold over the next three years to 40 million units.

The market for Blu-ray Disc players will grow to 35 million units in 2011 from 6.5 million units in 2008, mostly in the United States and Europe, the company said.

US$ 137 per unit (15,000 yen)

But in high quantities, the price will drop.

The Japan Today article is also a month old with already outdated info. It's possible they've dropped the pricing.

Roberto,

What does this have to do with the thread title (NEC LSI chip for BD players)?

Add a NEC LSI chip to get a cheap BD player and add also a NEC SRT board to implement Super Resolution Technology to DVD upconvert in BD players to compete with future Toshiba SRT DVD players.

As with Toshiba's solution, I'll believe it when I see it, and I ain't seein' it. That kind of processing would basically require a PS3, and even then it's not guaranteed.

Which would also mean more $$. But hey, if SRT ends up being superior to HQV, Anchor Bay, etc I would love to see it inside a BD player. But I will believe it when I see it to. I have taken this approach with most technologies over the years, even though I am typically an early adopter.

Yes, but most likely only in select TV's as it will definitely add cost to an already profit competitive market (LCD HDTV's). And Toshiba is typically not the first name that comes to mind when I think of higher end CE gear.
