Interesting that Crutchfield said this. Do you know when they said it because I just checked and all BD models are in stock now, except the $2000.00 Denon BD player here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/g_279850/...rs.html?tp=171

I wonder if they are limiting supply like OPEC does to help keep prices high. I sure hope the demand is really there, but it seems very odd with prices as high as they are that the demand is so high they airfreight them at a significant cost over doing it by ship.

I have a client who has certain components to his products made in China, and the cost is significantly higher. This would only be done as a last resort as a business decision for a very short period or else it would damage margins significantly. The smart thing to do is to send some airfreight while sending most by ship and just using the airfreight for a very short term stop gap measure.

Besides BD Panny does plasmas very well but I never really hear much about LCDs. I really don't know what the ratio is between Plasma and LCD but it seams like LCD has a large share of the market.

Which is why Panasonic has started making LCD panels as well.

It's worked for two years with the Wii. I live in Dallas, and you still will have a hard time finding a Wii consistently. Could work here too. There is sometimes a perception of "Gotta get one too!" when something is constantly out of stock and it's a higher ticket item. It must be really popular, or it would be in stock. Especially when it's so expensive.

Again, possible perception anyway.

I was shocked at that claim.

Here you go:

DisplaySearch: Global PDP Shipments

Look in the News Forum. I posted some links about LCD production - more info.

Nintendo has preferred to ship the Wii to Europe over the states since the Euro has been holding it's value over the Dollar. As demand drops in Europe they deliver more here. I doubt BD has a large market like the Wii so if they are holding back then it's by keeping them in a warehouse somewhere.

Indeed, Wii has been plentiful over here (though still selling stupidly well) for a good few months now. I don't think the out of stock factor is actually pushing sales over here, just how fantastic the console is.

No problems getting a Wii here. Bought one yesterday at a Target near my house, and there were five others on the shelf, went to another Target closeby for the remote sport pack and there were seven on the shelf.
