It SRs my DVDs quite nicely inside my PS3. It only uses 3 frames to make the image, but has mosquito noise reduction, block noise reduction, and frame noise reduction. All scalable from 0-3.

Not bad for free.

Still waiting on HD DVD firmware upgrade. We got DivX at 1.80, so it shouldn't be long.

Sony needed cash and Sony had plans to do other things, a simple business decision. This might be a good business transaction for both or Toshiba might make billions as a result and Sony could have sold the operation at a price too low. We can't know yet how that transaction will impact either company, but my guess is that both will succeed with their plans and the transaction was good for both.

I can't say to much, but I got an email from a Sony insider telling me that apparently there is some critical flaw in the technology, so Sony basically sold a lemon to Tosh. I feel really bad for Tosh. Can you say "millenium bug", except that it applies to the turnover of the calendar year 2010 .

Chris
- they needed cash to prop up their badly sagging financials.

There’s legal protection involved for the buyer if the seller sells a Technology on false pre-tense, there is no way Sony can sell its technology if it were flawed or Toshiba would easily go after them with the courts on their side. But if it is flawed according to the Sony Insider then all PS3’s are also flawed right.

Then Sony would be much further in the hole. Either way I am sure Toshiba’s smart engineers can make mechanical Hi Def pigs to fly if needed so let alone what they can do with the CELL.

Looks like Toshiba is also shedding some "extra weight" for $$:

After this:
Toshiba posts net loss in first quarter

We have this:

Quote:
Nomura Real Estate Holdings, Inc. and Toshiba Corporation to Establish Alliance in Real Estate Business through Sale of Majority Ownership of Toshiba Building Co., Ltd.

Transfer of the stock will support Toshiba in its strategy of focusing on and channeling resources to core business areas. Toshiba will also be able to make use of the know-how of Nomura Real Estate Group in raising the value of the assets it holds, and to further enhance management efficiency.

A $70+ Billion company loses $110 million in one quarter?

You think that is significant.?

Quote:
"The Japanese economy is entering a severe slowdown phase, on the impact of the slowdown in the global economy and surging crude oil prices," Toshiba said in a statement.
THAT is significant. That is going to affect all the Asian CE companies.

A loss is a loss.

I was just showing you that Toshiba is also busy selling stuff off.
