I have a Toshiba 1920x1080 CRT in my bedroom, but in practice I'm lucky if the phosphors can separate two lines at 600 lines of resolution. (1200 pixels)

But even then, it's very easy to tell the difference between upscaling and BD.

I used the Sammy 1080p in the livingroom which is a 1080p panel which does the de interlacing on it's own even if the players are set to 1080p/24.

Which test pattern would you like me to run on it? I have numerous THX tests on my Disney DVD's and I also have the older Calibration disk not the HD DVD version. Not to sure if that will work for the test you want though. Let me know and I will see if I can source it out.

You can use the same one I used. Here it is again.



Your Sammy has an HDMI input, which will hook up to your computer's DVI connector with an adapter, and it also has a 15-pin D-sub VGA input. Just set your desktop resolution to 1920x1080 and put the test pattern to your desktop background. It should be really easy.

Still the same thing: I've checked the 1MB limit box. I compress my raw files with jpg settings between 100% to 95% to get under the 1MB. That's all. No idea why it ain't working for you.

BTW if you know a good, free picture hosting site that can handle png files (like ~ 2.5 MB for 1080p), has enough bandwidth and doesn't do the pop-up/ads thing let me know. The one's i've tried so far had some nice porn ads around the pictures or offered only 250 MB bandwidth....

That's how I do it. Right under the Upload Images & Video list box, there's a pull-down menu that says "Reduce to:", with options for various resolutions, and the last option in that pull-down is "1 megabyte file size". Set that pull-down menu to "1 megabyte file size", and you should be good to go.



I totally forgot about DSNY FN's resolution test. So how's that coming?

Why are your images 1920x1088?

I guess it has something to do with this:

There are three basic display sizes for ATSC. Basic and enhanced NTSC and PAL image sizes are at the bottom level at 480 or 576 lines. Medium-sized images have 720 scanlines and are 1280 pixels wide. The top tier has 1080 lines 1920 pixels wide. 1080-line video is actually encoded with 1920×1088 pixel frames, but the last eight lines are discarded prior to display. This is due to a restriction of the MPEG-2 video format, which requires the number of coded luma samples (i.e., pixels) to be divisible by 16.

Yes, thank you. But like it says, the last 8 lines are discarded. I don't have any programs that output anything other than 1080 when taking screenshots. Soooooooo... what program are you using for screenshots?

Nothing special, MediaPlayerClassic homecinema (with VMR9 renderless) and the "Save image" option. It saves a bmp, that i create the jpg/png from.
