About as well as Blu-Ray is doing I think. Many people are currently not that interested in HD.

I am thinking that HD DVD would be on the same path that Blu-ray is on now. The average consumer doesn't care about HD yet, but I am thinking that will change within the next year with the 2008 holiday season and the digital conversion in February 2009.

I think it would be about the same as Bluray. If it was any ahead it would be because of the combo disc. With the prices of everything going up I just don't see people buying into a new format in the masses.

I think it would be doing about the same. Being outsold approximately 2:1 plus/minus 5 percentage points on a fairly consistent basis. The overall HDM market would be perhaps a bit larger, but only a bit.

HD DVD would have moved along at the same rate as BD is. The general public isn't ready yet to go HD. Not enough people have HDTVs in their homes yet.

Everyone keeps yapping on how the only reason Sony won the format war was because of the PS3 game console. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't HD DVD in the Xbox 360? Isn't that considered a game console with an HD player?

Toshiba couldn't afford to keep selling their SA players at $99 - $150, they were losing their shirts. So yeah, it would have been great to see HD DVD win the war ....only to have to declare bankruptcy and we wind up with nothing but upconverters.

And then they could have had a war with themselves by introducing SRT.

Anyone else think BD being linked in peoples mind to Sony is a good thing for HDM considering that Sony is considered king of quality by Johnny PunchClock and Timmy TimeCard?

That can be as good as it can be as bad. I know a lot of people that love Sony's products, and I know a lot of people that wouldn't buy a Sony product.

A tv repairman told me 10 years ago Sony's tvs was the top of the line. He also told me in the last 2 to 3 years they have gone downhill. I don't know how true that is I'm just going on what he said. He said about all major brands of tvs have some kinda problem but it seemed that Sony's had more than the others.

I'd be willing to bet that wether or not you like Sony, you have some kind of Sony product in your home. Or atleast something they are a part of

Good poll questions Kampsy.

People "In the know" know that Sony quality for entry level gear has diminished. But the average joe doesn't.

Yes. Even though there are a lot of Sony haters around the forum life, Sony is looked at as a real high end company by average consumers still. I have seen it at places like BB, CC, and with friends, co-workers, and family.

My Dad in California has a Sony TV hung in his living room, just because he thinks it's high end. My step dad still swears by Sony products, although only avoids them sometimes because of their prices. Average people grade items by their price. Since Sony products are expensive, people naturally think they are way better than all the others. Same goes for Bose. People around here hate Bose, but most people outside of forums think Bose is top of the line surround/

Well put.

Perception beats reality in the consumer market. Thank god for the uninformed! They may actually make this HDM thing work!

+1 The market is just not ready for HDM in general. But we would have some pretty cool HDi interactive stuff by now!

You'll enjoy the alien hunt in ID4 if you ever go Blu if you're into the interactive stuff.

You've got a crosshair throughout the movie that you move with the remote and kinda do a scavenger hunt thing.

And what profile of BD player is required to use this feature? Is it on-line (Internet) or only on disc?

1.0 my friend. Disc only.

The CGI really shows it's age in this movie though.

But the sound is pretty kick ass.
