Best Buy Offers HD DVD Owners $50 Gift Card

Quote:
The card can be redeemed on anything in the store.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (March 19, 2008) -- Best Buy today will announce that it will offer a $50 gift card to customers who purchased an HD DVD player from any Best Buy store.

That's according to an article by The New York Times.

The gift card, which can be spent on any item in the store, is part of a growing industry effort to appease HD DVD owners who chose the wrong format in the high-def disc war between Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Toshiba announced last month that it's pulling the plug on HD DVD at the end of March, meaning that the studios will stop releasing HD DVD titles in the coming weeks.

“We don’t want to leave customers hanging," said Brian Dunn, Best Buy's president, according to The Times.

Circuit City has also pitched in by offering a complete credit for the return of an HD DVD purchased at a Circuit City store. However, the player must be returned within 90 days of purchase.

The New York Times reports that the Best Buy gift cards will be mailed automatically to customers who purchased HD DVD players by February 23 through rewards programs, the company's web site or those who purchased extended warranties. All others must show proof of purchase to get the card.

The card will not include an expiration date, The Times writes.

If you get it before April you may even be able to use it for HD DVDs.

More thread crapping, I see. You just can't help yourself from reverting back to your blu blud fanboy ways, can you?

Actually,... I edited it but not before you got to it.

Anyway,.. it's true,.. bad choices shouldn't be rewarded but free Best Buy credit can be fun.

For some reason Lee's post about how the whole economy should crash just so that no one can enjoy Blu Ray put me back in my Smurf suit. That fella has a knack for annoying me since he conspired with that Sa0cd fella on the WB hoax.

Least we forget why Brian came to HDF . . .

To admonish me for the fake WB announcement thread that was posted on BD.com by a AVS member.

Remember Brian?

Yeah, it's so easy to sit high on the porcelain throne and look down upon one's luck and think it's how it was always meant to be.. then sad that they have to flush

Brian:

I said WILL crash . . . not SHOULD crash. Try reading some other news besides HDM ones. It is ALL OVER every media known to man.

That the story Brian?

Exactly,.. I pretty much despise you for the role you played in that fake WB hoax. You're not AVS material, even now, and I can't really forgive them for not banning you. You just had to boast about being in on the hoax which showed anyone who was paying attention what type of person you are.

Brian:

The feeling is mutual.

And I had nothing to do with the hoax other than to show it as a hoax.

Just another Blu-bot in sheeps clothing. That's what you are Brian.

Trading private messages with the hoaxer about planning the hoax doesn't quite put you in the "nothng to do with it" department except in your own mind.

You could have said from the start that it was a hoax before thousands of people who love HDM got very nervous about it. Thing is,.. it didn't play out well for your HD DVD format like you thought it would and then you had to boast about being in on it instead of hiding your role.

You know what happened,.. I don't need to explain it to you.

I thought the hoax was funny in a strange, twisted way. You need to get over it. You accuse others of taking this stuff so serious.. pot, meet kettle.. both need blu paint.

I sure do! Cause you have the facts of the matter all twisted up!

I did not conspire to set the hoax. THAT was done long before I came on the scene.

And I will be honest with you Brian . . . ANTHING that winds up the assholes over at BD.com gives me GREAT pleasure
