Default No Indiana Jones Announcement for Blu-Ray... :(

So Paramount announced some big 13-disc saga set coming out just before Indy 4 for DVD, but no such announcement was made for any HDM which I think absolutely blows.

Indiana Jones MUST be released in HD. I can't believe they're holding off even longer.

Or did anyone hear otherwise?

In just one week, the trailer for Paramount's upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has been viewed more than 200 million times worldwide, according to Gerry Rich, Paramount's president of worldwide marketing. "The response has been sensational and it shows what technology can do when you have material that is so appealing to audiences," Rich told the Associated Press. Harry Knowles, who runs the website AintItCool.com, told A.P., "It seems that everyone is extremely excited that there's a new 'Indiana Jones' film. The excitement for it is palpable. It's much more aggressively anticipated than anything else that's coming out right now." The film is due to be released on May 22
It will be a BIG hit - IMO - over $400 million USA alone and over $1 billion WW.

I liked Snakes on a Plane. A good fun little movie

I own the DVDs and don't know who would honestly buy new SD-DVD versions with Blu-Ray the winning format. Hopefully Blu-Ray versions will come out in time for the video release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I utterly hate buying SD DVDs now, it feels like throwing cash away. The problem is, most films over here (even Day and Date) don't get a HDM release full stop. So if you want to see a film, it has to be SD DVD

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas just want to make more money and are waiting, until the market is bigger. I mean the war is resolved now, next step is reaching critical ma$$...

But you can upscale with the supa dupa 960p 9xoversampling wondermachines, that will do away with the odd colors, MPEG2 artefacts thanks to low bitrates, sloppy mastering and whatnot.

What, you don't like it?

I wouldn't mind if we had to wait, but the fact that we have nothing official released about it coming to BluRay is annoying. I'm not getting the films on DVD, heck no. But at the same time I have no doubt in my mind they are also working on getting them on BluRay. I mean why in the world wouldn't they?

Very annoying isn't it? If you're gonna just scrap the upcoming (already mastered in HD etc) HD DVDs, for the love of god at the very least confirm that they'll be coming to Blu-ray with a date >_<

Yes, money does seem to be the driving force behind many of their releases. I don't blame them really. It must be dreadfully difficult to make ends meet with the sort of bank ballances these guys have and I am sure they need the money

Well, Spielberg used the format war as an excuse for not releasing any of his movies in high-def.

Of course, didn't we all know that that excuse was a crock of ahit? Now that it's completely out of the way, what will his new excuse be? Or will he even offer one?

Default Its all about the money

Here is how it works:

You release the SD versions to a waiting fan base. Make a ton of money. You release the NEW movie in theaters. Make a ton of money. You keep in theaters and make even more.

You use the NEW release to get a whole new crop of younger fans hungry for Indiana Jones, but you hold out the Blu Ray until your ready to release the NEW film to home video. You let the anticipation build to fever pitch.

Then you re-package ALL the older films along with the NEW one, toss in a few trinkets in a pretty box and sell the set for $250 US. and POW

Make a ton of money.

Thats about all there is to it. For the Studio to do it any other way would be throwing money away and their not going to be doing that anytime soon.

Or you can continue your moritorium on buying movies on disc and wait for Super HD.
